Technology investor Peter Thiel implored Republicans from the convention stage on Thursday against waging "culture wars" on lesbian, gay and transgender communities, mere days after the GOP approved a national platform that defines marriage as between one man and one woman. Thiel, who himself is gay, stressed that "every American has a unique identity." He said attempts to require transgender Americans to use particular bathrooms is a "distraction from our real problem." And in a first for a GOP convention, the Facebook board member and PayPal co-founder drew attention to his own sexuality: "I am proud to be gay, I am proud to be a Republican, but most of all, I am proud to be an American," he said.

Creating a few jobs is a temporary economic benefit. If he and his ilk succeed in destroying our culture, that’s a permanent and fatal wound.
Sorry, but I’m not going to forgive someone shooting me in the head if they also send me a care package.
Those are pretty colors :)
How’s the move going?
>>Are you aware that Thiel had plans to open an office in North Carolina that was to employ 400 people? People got upset that the mayor and her friend (a convicted sex offender) pushed her men in the bathroom agenda. Thiel immediately decided to move that office out of Charlotte to Cuba!
>>Four hundred jobs were lost and millions of dollars. Next the NBA pulled an all-star game out of the city. More $$ lost. Punishment for not going along with their alleged distractions.
In other times and places, Christianity costs us our lives, not mere $$$. I guess I’m thankful that we get to live in such a wicked world and still have faith enough to not indulge in all the earthly pleasures and temptations that are not only offered to us, but are shoved in our faces.
Common sense solves a lot of problems. As for bakers;
simply bake plain generic cakes & sell separate floral
decorations for them. Sell the little bride & groom
decorations & let anyone buy TWO sets if they want a
“gay” couple. THEY can decorate as they want. Just do
NOT pry and do not offer to serve at wedding receptions.
“... I don’t believe that the government should care about what you do in the privacy of your home.”
In case you missed it, that battle has been over for 20 years now, by Supreme Court edict.
The current battle is about whether the sodomites can force the rest of America to act against their own conscience by bringing the brute force of government to bear against us.
“I dont support sodomy either; but I do not want to live in
a country that imprisons and abuses homosexuals.”
Who the heck is talking about imprisoning and abusing homosexuals? Besides the muslims, I mean...
“Is that kind of like believing the Enquirer reporting on teds affairs?”
Careful there, about 90% of current FReepers seem to think that is gospel.
To me, the so called culture wars center on justice for unborn babies. Otherwise I’m not concerned with the rest. God will judge them, I leave it in His just and merciful hands.
Thinking about this, what Trump/his people have done, is totally innoculate him and the R party from any attacks of “homophobia”. It’s like a vaccination.
Trump has said he wants SCOTUS justices who will overturn RvW and homo marriage, and freedom of religious expression is vital.
But he’s made it clear he’s not a homo-hater. This is like teflon coating. Plus will draw voters who are afraid of “homophobia. Trump is not on board with the homo agenda.
Your solution still requires the bakery to lend their name to an event that contravenes their religion.
It’s not so simple - one’s reputation is all one really has in business, and lending that reputation out can damage it (badly).
That’s ridiculous. Cake bakers decorate, that’s what they do.
“How many babies has the pro life GOP saved? My count is ZERO.”
So you don’t think partial birth abortion bans save lives, or parental consent laws save lives, or effectively closing all the clinics in a great many states saves lives?
There’s only a limited amount that can be done until we can overturn Roe vs. Wade. Expecting abortions to be banned completely at this point is a fool’s demand.
None so blind as those who do not want to see.
“Also, for the Freepers here judging, do you people think that a gay lifestyle is worst then our security, our laws being broken, our police being murdered, our citizens be killed by Jihadist(France just a week ago, 3 more Americans killed).”
Do I have to think a thief is as bad as a murderer to be opposed to thievery? Most of us can chew bubble gum and skip rope at the same time.
Thiel’s message was so simple and correct. Don’t get sucked into the “Culture wars” while your country is going down the tubes economically. Anyone who can turn that simple concept into something sinister, is a large part of why Republicans keep losing.
Stop being distracted or you will be destroyed.
The war is only over if we concede defeat, and many of us never will. You’re thinking exactly as the liberals would love to have you think, that since they have managed to impose change on society it can never be reversed.
Do the liberals themselves think that way? Never! They never concede that they can’t achieve their goals to change society, they always keep fighting relentlessly, and that is why they are winning.
As for “crippling the party”, you forget that the main reason a whole segment of voters favor the GOP is because of our stance on these cultural issues. You’re never going to lure liberals to the GOP by abandoning these issues, but you will lose many social conservatives by abandoning them. We’ve already got a party for people who want fiscal conservatism but don’t care about social issues. It’s called the Libertarian party, and I for one have no inclination to try to sink to their level of electoral success.
“Fight abortion but ignore the bathroom issue.”
No, I refuse to cede an inch of ground. We’ve been retreating for far too long, and behind us is a cliff, so we must stop retreating.
“Its never going to happen.”
It will certainly never happen if people adopt your attitude.
Who are the better tech business leaders who are actually conservative?
>>No, I refuse to cede an inch of ground. Weve been retreating for far too long, and behind us is a cliff, so we must stop retreating.
Keep fighting!
