U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham urged Donald Trump to clarify his position on defending European allies after a New York Times article quoted the GOP presidential nominee as not fully supportive of the NATO alliance treaty.
“Statements like these make the world more dangerous and the United States less safe,” Graham, R-S.C., said this morning.
“I can only imagine how our allies in NATO, particularly the Balkan states must feel after reading these comments from Mr. Trump,” Graham said. “I’m 100 percent certain how Russian President Putin feels – he’s a very happy man.”
Trump, in a New York Times interview today, broke from standing U.S. foreign policy in suggesting the U.S. wouldn’t defend its NATO allies, including the Baltic states against Russian aggression. He cited them not fulfilling “their obligation to us” including through adequate military spending.
Graham called on Trump to correct his statement.

Linda, we call on you to honor your pledge. Oh, dang. You have no honor so I guess, in the words of hildabama, “What difference at this point does it make.” Sit down and shut up.

It was a very ill judged comment by Trump.
This time Lindsey Graham is correct.

Translation: “You want us to play ball with you, you play ball with us.”
No more free rides, seems to be the general idea...
Maybe he’s trying to get the EU to spend more on their own defense instead of relying on the US tax payers

Graham desperately trying to be relevant. Why should Trump listen to a guy who backed out of a pledge?

I also wish Trump would clarify this, if he has to mention it now at all. Small nations, such as Estonia, may not have certain funds at certain junctures. Would they then be vulnerable for conquest by Putin? I understand what Trump’s saying, many nations should pay more to acknowledge our support.
Later on, if he wins, I hope Trump decides to move the UN off this continent. If he does that, Oh, just wait for all the wailing and knashing of teeth from the hate-America parasites. Remember the Big Bird protests when Romney proposed defunding PBS? This will be 20 times worse in rhetoric and scare tactics.
I looked at the size of the armies of those smaller member states. Disgusting.

I guess Lindsey has problems understanding things said at a 4th grade level.
Like many others he probably also has a problem with Trump supporting the democratically elected leader of a NATO ally. Doesn’t really matter if that leader is scum - it’s at least the right thing to say. Trump got attacked both for supporting a NATO ally and saying he may not support another. Some people just want to find fault.
Trump: “Why sure, Lindsay! Let me give you a phone call and I’ll give you a full clarification. By the way ... what’s your new number?”
