Also what I’ve seen has suggested the coup may have been lead by more extreme Islamists than currently in power. I don’t know if true but ...
Where are his advisors?
“Some people say that it was staged, you know that, he said. I dont think so.”
The act that he mentioned that has meaning. He is the master of the “some people say....” which of course, nobody can accuse him of saying it.
Make nice until our nukes and troops are secure again. Make nice so we can still fly into Turkey. Sometimes you have to play the game as much as it disgusts you.
I was rooting for the coup to succeed, but I imagine Trump might have seen it as a source of even more instability in a part of the world that has already way too much of it.
I could easily see that as a valid point.
He made that little jab about the coup being staged so it’s out there and can’t be taken back. Even though he followed up that he didn’t think it was, the idea is on the table which he can use when he needs to.
That is not what I wanted to hear from Trump. Erdogan is the closest thing to Hitler Europe has had since WWII.
I agree.
And, Turkey under Erdogan is working hard to develop their own nukes.
Imagine this nutcase with nukes.
It’s not looking good for Europe or the region.
And now, all those Muslim refugees in Europe, they will be Erdogan’s foot soldiers.
Trump and the black dog Erdogan, now there’s a vision for America’s future! Does Trump do this on purpose or is he just a dangerous idiot? He didn’t have to say a darn thing!
He is already using the flood of refugees to blackmail Europe.
>>As for his praise for Erdogan?
Consistent with his inability to articulate the fundamental principles of America’s secular ideology.
Every American leader should read and understand the context this...
...was constituted in.
"EDUCATE THE COMMON PEOPLE LEADERSHIP
THIS IT IS THE BUSINESS OF THE STATE FREEPER TO EFFECT AND ON A GENERAL PLAN"
> he does need to stop pandering to the Ron/Rand Paul and Pat Buchanan crowd with regard to foreign policy.
They’re the only crowd with a sane approach to foreign policy.
If this permanent war madness is the policy you support, you’re going to find yourself increasingly out of step with the American people - who are sick and tired of the brutal global nonsense and the breathtaking expense and lives lost and liberties lost - as you no doubt are experiencing so far.
As far as I can tell from the analysis on this thread, Mr. Trump’s level of international gamesmanship and cognitive sophistication is so far above that of the ordinary Southern housewife or Greek gentleman that you and I might as well just sit here and *drink* rather than risk being blinded by the sublime brilliance.
It’s suppertime in Ankara, so name your poison!
There is no justification for NATO’s continued existence past the fall of the Berlin Wall, and this becomes clearer with every NATO intervention and wargame and threat issued.
FANTASTIC opening position in forcing NATO countries to meet their obligations. At this point, they have no incentive, since big daddy USA will bail them out no matter what. It is national welfare for NATO now. Trump is communicating that if both sides do not keep their agreement, it isn't much of an agreement.
I will take option # 2.
I’ve been a bit bothered by this, but then it is the NY Times and I think the full quotes could be edited and no full context. Wait for more, but Trump needs to record all interviews he does for backup.
