An unarmed Florida therapist was shot by police while trying to calm down his autistic patient, authorities said.

Police in North Miami were responding to a report of a man with what appeared to be a gun when they came across Charles Kinsey and his patient, who had run away from a group home.

I agree with you on this. I used to work in a group home.

I also have a problem with mainstreaming badly handicapped children with their functional peers.

My mother was a teacher for the handicapped back in the 70’s. The kids got massage therapy and one-on-one educational therapy. For some, it took years to learn how to use a spoon or crawl. Speech therapy. There were 6 children for each teacher and each child had a personal aid. These kids improved!

When my kids were in school just a few years ago I went up to observe a classroom. In the back is a severely handicapped child strapped into a wheelchair. His mind was at the level of a 2 year old. They just rolled him from class to class. He wasn’t getting a damn thing out of US History or algebra. He needed to be working on basic motor functions.

But we don’t want these kids to ‘feel left out’. So instead of actually giving them what they need, we put on a farce and pretend that they’re perfectly healthy.

"This was the worst shot that I’ve ever seen in my life!"

It's painful, but lucky for Kinsey that it WAS such a bad shot.

Absolutely amazing. I cannot begin to describe how terrible this was.

We all should be very worried seeing things like this. Here we had an upstanding AMERICAN CITIZEN, who’s lifes work was helping autistic individuals, lying on the ground, complying with everything, not worrying a ton about himself, instead worrying about his autistic patient and what does our law enforcement do? They shoot him. Literally shoot him, and do it long after initial contact.

This officer should be charged with pre-meditated attempted murder, and nothing short should suffice. Secondarily, the other police officers should be dealing him some swift “on the side” justice.

If we are to be truly free men and women, we need to fix this. The whole of the police force may need to be purged, the training reviewed, and new requirements set. This is absolutely appalling, and again should frighten every true American.

I will leave all FReepers with this. If you review this, and believe this was anywhere near ok, then I do not consider you one of my countrymen.

I am assuming it means better control of their weapons. You can have self control not to shoot someone, but do it anyway because the safety wasn’t on. But I do agree, the gun didn’t do it. It can be released to its own recognizance.

“..the gun didn’t do it. It can be released to its own recognizance.” LOL. That made my day, so far.

Sure doesn’t look good, Che, has anyone gotten the cops’ side of the story yet? No? Really? Big surprise.

>>discharging a weapon on someone THREE TIMES while they lay prone on the ground, hands in the air is just grossly negligent<<

No, it’s criminally negligent.

Doughtnut boy

The video speaks for itself, too bad the cops didn't have a drop gun like the old days, right?

As for calling me Che', I take it as a complement; his book on warfare is studied by any warrior worth his rations. You should read it sometime.

I suggest you watch the video. Then explain what it actually shows, genius. It does not show a shooting. We have video of two guys not being shot, and we have a guy making allegations, nothing more. You got anything more?

This is not about race. The therapist just happened to to black and watching over his white/Hispanic patient. If you watch the film, you will understand what this is about.

Just watch the film. You will be able to make a very clear distinction as to what happened.

I have not seen any condemnation, however, if you actually watch the film you can decide for yourself whether the actions of law enforcement was justified. Blue lives matter to me. The film is ...arresting.

Certain groups aren’t able to handle the fact police occasionally make mistakes.

You’re right, I would hate for that “mistake” to take the life of my loved one
