Ohio Gov. and former Republican presidential candidate John Kasich (R-Ohio) told an audience in Cleveland that he looks at immigration as an opportunity because Ohio has a “stagnant growth of population — we want people to come to Ohio.”

“When I look at immigration I look at a new level of energy,” Kasich told an International Republican Institute gathering on Tuesday. […]

“I look at immigration as an opportunity. One of the things that we face in Ohio is a stagnant growth of population — we want people to come to Ohio. We want to integrate these folks and we want them to become part of our economic dynamo. So this refrain we hear around the world, and I understand some of the problems we have, is this anti-immigration is unhealthy.” …

“Ohio losing high-paying manufacturing jobs under Kasich”

http://www.wnd.com/2016/03/ohio-losing-high-paying-manufacturing-jobs-under-kasich/

Backs free-trade deals sending employment overseas

Ohio Gov. John Kasich is an enthusiastic free-trade advocate who boasts of job growth during his two terms as Ohio governor, despite the state’s continued loss of manufacturing jobs to free-trade outsourcing and the transformation under his watch of its economy from high-paying, full-time jobs largely in manufacturing to lower-paying, part-time service jobs.

When he was representing Ohio in the House of Representatives, Kasich voted for NAFTA and supported the measure to extend “Most Favored Nation” status to China under the auspices of the World Trade Organization, much as he now supports the quick passage of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the TPP, dubbed by critics “Obama-trade.”

“Ohio’s Cloudy Future: The Decline of the “Big Eight” and the Buckeye State”

Midwestern Rust Belt cities generally continued their long slide down in terms of population growth. This proved especially true in the state of Ohio, formerly a key manufacturing hub and once arguably the heartland of Industrial North America.

For not only have Ohio’s major cities continued to shrink, their population loss actually ACCELERATED from 2000 to 2010. The same largely holds true for the shrinking counties that are home to Ohio’s seven withering major cities.

Your economic dynamo of a couple billion surplus will quickly be drained supporting these freeloaders...

Kasich needs to be specific, rather than just saying “immigration”.

Democrats want uncontrolled illegal immigration, for the cheap labor that helps their big donors. They conflate legal and illegal immigration to be deceptive. Conservatives want only legal immigration, and only at the rates approved by Congress under guidance received from American voters. Kasich is not a conservative, as we all have known for years.

There are immigrants, good, bad, and horrific. Too many are here just for the welfare or jihad. There are illegal aliens (they are not immigrants but invaders), all who have broken the law and should be deported. Kasich’s babbling about them makes little sense and only makes him sound like a man on the take. He might not be on the take but sure leaves the impression.

What Kasich means is that the Rust Belt has dried up because of liberal Democrat policies, and the traditional residents have moved away. Instead of trying to rebuild the economic base of Ohio, Kasich wants to import cheap labor to serve those who have remained or couldn't leave.

The working men and women are always burdened by immigration. It never helps them ever. They are all in competition for wages and a supply increase always decreases price, in this case wages.

We are offshoring production and importing people. It is a sick world.

You don’t need more population when you already don’t have enough jobs for the current residents. What is the unemployment rate in OH again?

Idiot.

Check the facts gov nitwit. Needy, illiterate immigrants drain the system, and will represent the vast majority of newcomers to your community. A very small percentage actually have anything to offer. It’s a losing proposition both ways.

What he’s talking about? Legal immigration, millions of illegals, or refugees from Syria - there is a difference...

We need the immigration laws put back in place that were in effect in 1952 when my family immigrated here. It required an American sponsor who vouchsafed he would be responsible financially for the first 5 years of said immigrant family, the immigrant had to have an offer of a job in this country before arrival, and had to be medically in tip top shape. Also the visas were set up to be basically Euro-based peoples as those numbers permitted to emigrate were apportioned by the numbers of the ancestry of Americans living in the country. Thus Britain, Germany, and other European counries had the largest visas issued for immigrants. Now visas are based on the size of the countries, leading to a lot of immigrants who arrive, don’t speak English, job offers no longer required, who instantly go on welfare and tend to stay on welfare. We need immigration reform desperately..
