Mrs. Trump, Monday night:
From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.
Mrs. Obama, in her 2008 speech:
Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say youre going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you dont know them, and even if you dont agree with them. And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children and all children in this nation to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

M Obama used points that conservatives have been using for decades.
It's HER that stole the intellectual property from conservative thought but from her they were lies used to deceive the American people into thinking that the Obamas and their ilk had some character and good ideas for making America great again.
The plagiarists are the dems stealing from conservatives ideas and beliefs but it is all just talk with them
Great speech from Mrs Donald Trump.
Whiners gotta whine, it's what they do.
I don't know if this is anything "important", but I thought I'd throw it out there. If anyone thinks this is significant, feel free to send it to the media.
I loved Melania's speech overall, especially when she said "being an Ameican citizen is the greatest privilege in the world!"
We KNOW Moochelle never uttered those words...
I agree, Syncro. Please see Post 402.
“Her speechwriters should have figured another way for her to express her feelings without cribbing from a speech that a lot of people remembered.”
Agree. I hope the responsible speechwriter(s) has been walked to the door by now -.after a extensive @$$ reaming.
Michael Obama was not the first person to say your word is your bond and so forth.
I really doubt anyone checked out prior speeches for Mrs. Trump. Probably they just wrote the best applicable speech and that was it.
Some of the quotes of parents and thoughts on issues are generational as well.
I agree so much. I don’t understand why we can’t criticize behavior or mistakes on this board even if we support the politians or family member. It’s weird. We have to be in lockstep - 100 percent of the time or we are a RINO or liberal. So weird. It’s like they think what we say here will affect all the voters...
Mrs. Trump did very well last night. I would not be surprised if Mr. Trump gets elected, the country she came from, Slovenia could see interest for vacation travel by Americans down the road.
I see the big deal being made on Melania’s speech as a “nothing burger” that is all, a distraction.
Sure, no one individual phrase is unique—it is all platitudes.
But stringing them together in that similarity like that, from the last first lady’s speech—which you know any competent speechwriter would have studied—is beyond coincidence.
That said, it is very, very unlikely that Melania was involved in the cribbing. She was more likely the victim than the perpetrator.
Trump will win the general with the majority of legitimate legally cast votes by quite a healthy margin.
If all illegitimate fraudulent votes are counted (including ACORN and the Soros machines in several states, they always vote left/lib/dem) considering the millions of non citizens voting from south of the border, he will need quite a large margin.
The victims are all those that are all ver klempt about this ridiculous unnecessary dustup created as a straw man to distract from how well Mrs. Trump’s expressed her views.
Where did M Obama steal her statement “your word is your bond?” No complaints about that
Both of the Obamas are serial plagiarists big time.
Professional standards often require judgement to apply. Some concepts are not adequately captured by precise definitions. Although the term was mine, it essentially captures the standard that would be applied. Copying a couple of sentences and then changing a few words doesn't make the thought yours. Plagiarism doesn't necessarily require a word-for-word quote.
No one even cares about the last speech of Mrs. Obama except for being proud for the first time in America because of people voting in her idiot husband.
That is a big fat lie.
Like I inferred, anyone who believes two different statements are “exactly the same” are foolishly pushing leftist talking points.
You have no problem with MO “plagiarizing” the phrase “your word is your bond?”
Don't fret, Hillary will probably steal the general with voter fraud. Obama brought her new voter block, Syrian etc ISIS (ironically created by Obama and Hillary) supporters.
You have no clue what you’re talking about in either trying to compare a common, short phrase with the extended lift (with a tweak here and there) of someone else’s speech.
I will generously chalk your comments here up to simple ignorance.
I certainly don’t. But this was such a big unforced error from the Trump camp that it likely was not accidentally or well intended. That is, the obvious assumption is that it was sabotage.
Nonsense, this is the spouse, not the candidate. She told her story and she had some stuff in common with the First Lady, so what?
Some of the phrases referred to by both women are generational phrases.
It’s not an issue, this was done to take ears off of the Hillary victims.
Can't answer the question about MO’s “lifting” word for word a phrase? Gotcha.
9 years lurking? Thank goodness for that!
Barf is right, most future first ladies give a variation of this speech, including the MOOCH.
They need a speech proof reader, to be sure the writer does not use the same words like BOND. No original thoughts. Future First ladies should write their own speeches, and have them polished.
Even both witches gave the same basic speech.
Yup. It’s not like Michelle Obama coined the centuries-old idiom. No one demanded she cite it when she used it...nor the other one, which is a typical description of rising from a hard-scrabble early life.
