Mrs. Trump, Monday night:
From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life, that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise, that you treat people with respect. They taught and showed me values and morals in their daily lives. That is a lesson that I continue to pass along to our son. And we need to pass those lessons on to the many generations to follow. Because we want our children in this nation to know that the only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.
Mrs. Obama, in her 2008 speech:
Barack and I were raised with so many of the same values: that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say youre going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you dont know them, and even if you dont agree with them. And Barack and I set out to build lives guided by these values, and pass them on to the next generation. Because we want our children and all children in this nation to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.

He should say that. Was that from the same Michelle speach that is in question?
You haven’t been paying attention.
Trump believes (and probably rightly so) that any publicity is good publicity.
This was planned 100%. Nothing Trump does is by accident.
Meanwhile Hillary has probably spent another 50 million that everyone ignored.
The campaign claims there was a team of speech writers.
I am not sure you are going to be able to get a quick Google search to find a third speech at this point because of the overwhelming number of articles written about this nonsense recently, which screws up the algorithm.
I think this guy's mother coined the phrase, "My Ward is my Bond".

‘JUST WORDS’: OBAMA ‘08 RIPS LINES FROM DEVAL PATRICK... TWICE...
You are absolutely correct, and the contrast is glaring. While Melania Trump is a smart, beautiful, patriotic and self-effacing woman, Michelle Obama is a stupid, ugly, hateful, anti-American, entitlement-grabbing and vindictive old bitch.
I think the whole thing is meaningless because it happens so often. You would think a presidential candidate would have better speechwriters but I guess not.
The sad thing is that they didnt trust Melania to write her own speech completely, without any help. It would have be a knockout!
You make a lot of great points in your post. Your comments above may very well be correct: It was just bad speechwriting. I kind of hope you're not, given the high profile nature of this speech...
The campaign says a team of writers.
every speaker from here onward should recall how their parents did the same. Michele didn’t invent or copyright the basic American family experience (which is apparently quite universal ).
Thank you, Laz.
This WON’T AFFECT MY VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TRUMP 2016
I think Trump paid Hurwitz surreptitiously to write this speech and no one can admit to it. She can’t cop to moonlighting when she works for Michelle Obama. You cannot plagiarize yourself but you can repeat phrases that you successfully used before.
This should be the definitive response to accusations about plagiarism in politics. The link is from 2008 when Obama was accused of stealing Deval Patrick’s speech.

Duh.
I have been dealing with plagiarism, intentional and unintentional, for my whole working life. I have pointed it out to my employers and have been paid to do so. It has cropped up frequently through the years in some very famous writers, and my guess is that they had help in the writing and the “helpers” did it in those cases too.
I agree that Trump is very, very smart and is able to work the press to his advantage. Also, he has some pretty good Help in turning adversity into an advantage.
But he had many concerns in getting ready for this convention and I really don’t think he was in on this. He knows how to delegate responsibility. He read it, for sure, but didn’t notice the similarity.
Trump likes to hire the best. Who is more experienced than Sarah Hurwitz at first lady speechwriting? The entire speech is written in her style.
Trump got his wife the best speechwriter he could find so she could look good. But dumbass Hurwitz got lazy or assumed those were common themes that no one would notice.
So my question was who was the “one” who came up with those seemingly plagiarized lines. A team couldn’t piece that together.
The original writer of the lines.
