Newt Gingrich spoke with Fox Newss Greta Van Susteren live from Clevelands Quicken Loans Arena on Day One of the RNC convention Monday night. At the beginning of their conversation, they addressed the controversy around who is and who isnt present at the convention as the Republican Party gets ready to crown Donald Trump their 2016 nominee.
At least one speaker, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), has yet to endorse the GOP nominee. Susteren asked Gingrich if he believed Trumps former presidential opponent would finally announce his support for Trump during his speech Wednesday night.
Well I hope he does endorse him, Gingrich said.
If he doesnt?
I think itll be sad, Gingrich said. Itll be a betrayal.
Considering Cruz is getting ready to head back to the Senate, Gingrich argued it would be in Cruzs best interests to be on Trumps good side.
He knows its helpful to Trump that hes here, he said. At the same time, hes going back to the Senate. This is a significant step in this direction."
As for Ohio Gov. John Kasich and his staff, who have refused to attend this weeks convention, Gingrich said they seem to be in their own world.
I wait with baited breath to please read, and disect, anything the Won wrote for the Harvard Law Review. He’s the Editor of the Law Review and writes nothing? That’s a new record.
Are you going to vote for Trump?
He has been a Republican, plus, Cruz whole-heartedly said he would promise to endorse Trump.
Can’t you lie better than that?
Trump has to be the nominee because he earned over 1500 delegates. All of the candidates pledged their support for the winner.
If they (jeb, Kasich, Cruz etc.) don’t support Trump, that means their word doesn’t mean squat.
I hope everyone is listening.

Ted Cruz is an evil person. I will never vote for him for anything! ever
Regardless, Cruz is finished. Period.
His poll numbers in Texas are dropping.
He will slink back to senate, more hated than before.
He has been exposed as a fraud.
“I refuse to watch dead cruzs speech. I will just read about it here.”
Same here.
Turn of the year I was all `Cruz or lose!’ but then I got to know him. His career is toast.
Transcendent doesn’t apply to politics, IMO. I look for Cruz to say what is necessary to open a door for a third party in 2020, if, as he believes, the Republican party will be destroyed by Trump.
So, I look for a half-hearted endorsement with a warning that the Republican party must return to its conservative roots. With an implied, “or else.”
We’ll see.
No biggie.
US politicians betray the citizenry on a daily basis.
I guess it’s only news when they betray another politician.
Put some lotion on your Butt Hurt.
Trump has a number of stances for which I stand to the right of his. However,, Trump is America first and I believe really cares about the country and its citizens.
Cruz has a lot of positions with which I agree. I did not like his support initially for TPP and his coauthoring the piece in the Wall Street Journal supporting TPP with Paul Ryan, I did not like his willingness to support immigration reform. Finally, I do not believe he qualifies under the constitution to be President. I felt I could have supported him and did support him second to Trump up until February.
Now, Cruz is finished to me as a national candidate. If the people of Texas support him as Senator that is their choice. He received his last funding from me in January.
If Hillary gets elected America is unfixable for the next 25-30 years.
People better stop sulking and get aboard-now!
Same here, but then I can’t vote technically for him and neither can you.
lets wait and see what Cruz says.
Rafael won't be eligible in 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, or ever.
I agree with you one hundred percent.
I really get a big laugh out of these self important, pretentious a-holes who think they are better than us. True conservative values - ha! Are those the ones where the half breed gets everything he wants from a compliant RINO House and Senate?
BTW, you might want to think again about Trump being a “life long Democrat”. He was a registered Republican for decades.
What role is Newt going to have now that Pence is VP? Sec of State?
