A 32-year-old man was shot at least twice by Waco police officers Tuesday after he ran from a U.S. Marshals task force and displayed a handgun, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
Jonathan Tucker Gober ran from officers serving a warrant for a felony parole violation about 4:30 p.m., and the pursuit ended with the shooting behind a house near the intersection of 30th Street and Lyle Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
The officers were attempting to arrest that individual on a felony parole violation for a felony counterfeiting charge, and while doing so, that male produced a cocked handgun in a threatening manner toward officers during the apprehension, Swanton said.
Two Waco police officers fired on Gober.
Gober suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen, arm and leg, Swanton said. At least two bullets appeared to strike Gober before officers rendered immediate aid to Gober.
He was searched and a weapon was recovered, Swanton said.
Gober was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center and was undergoing emergency surgery late Tuesday afternoon. No update was available. He was conscious and alert as emergency crews took him from the scene.
Officers went to a home in the 2500 block of North 29th Street and saw Gober trying to hide when another man opened the front door, Swanton said. When the officers called to Gober, he ran out the back of the house, Swanton said.
Deputy U.S. marshals and several Waco officers began a foot chase with Gober, who ran into the backyard of the home at 30th Street and Lyle Avenue.
Swanton said a family member of Gobers told police Gober was armed, prompting officers to take extreme caution.
Police think Gober may be a member of a white supremacist organization, based on his tattoos, Swanton said.
Waco police and Texas Rangers began a dual investigation of the shooting as evidence was collected at the scene.
Swanton said residents of the home were inside when the shooting occurred. Neighbors also were home at the time of the shooting.
No officers or residents were injured in the shooting, but officers with Waco police victim services were at the scene to assist residents who were home at the time of the shooting.
Swanton said the officers involved in the shooting were taken back to the Waco Police Department as routine protocol. The names of the officers were not made public.
Righteous shoot.
Don’t mess with Waco. They know how to kill.
This is the only way to handle BLM and Panthers......Shoot them all.....
Justified!!!
To bad he’s alive.
I guess he was NOT a son of Obama, so, no riots are scheduled.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton is still a disgrace to the badge he wears. He’s just like that a$$hole former Navy Rear Admiral, John Kirby who is now the “mouthpiece” for the State Department. Or is it the Defense Department? In either case, they are a disgrace to the uniforms they wear or wore!
Resisting arrest again.
This guy is a honkey, by the picture I saw at the source, anyway.
Makes no difference.....black or white, if you pull down on an officer you get shot.
At least two bullets appeared to strike Gober before officers rendered immediate aid to Gober.
The other bullets were slow and flying around in circles so hadn't hit him yet.
He’s going back to federal prison for a while.
Had to read deep into the article before you can make the assumption that it was a white man who was shot. If the guy was black it would have been in the headlines!
"He displayed a handgun"
He was a white boy. This will not hit any national news outlets.
Why do both of you say these things? What has he done? I am not familiar with him at all.
Good shooting.
I bet BLM-types are preparing to go shoot some more police officers.
Hey, don’t be a goober Gober!
During the Twin Peaks biker massacre, he was the WPD spokesman. EVERYTIME he opened his mouth, he lied. E V E R Y T I M E. Obvious lies bigger than the last. So big you could drive a dozen trucks through. He is right up there with Hellary and Zero.
He also got accommodation for his work on the Mount Carmel fiasco.
