Somewhat distracted by the kids crashing on their scooters and now I need to know broken hand or sprained. It hurts him really badly, on the back of the hand. Been about 30 mins. Some swelling. How to tell if we have to go to the ER (illegal alien repository) tonight?
Waiting until tomorrow won't matter, unless the swelling or pain gets really bad. Immobilize, and make the visit tomorrow. We've had a few broken bones here, and while we got them to ER within a few hours each time, waiting a day would have made no difference at all in treatment or recovery. Our kids just happened to break something on the early afternoons.
No idea. Some people don’t have a lot of pain. I’ve heard a sprain can hurt worse than a break.
Maybe better wander on down to ER or urgent care to be safe.
My 20 y/o son flipped a go cart a couple of weeks ago and filled up what was left of the top layers of his right palm with asphalt.
He had to go to urgent care and get it cleaned and scraped because asphalt and road dirt can cause nasty skin infections.
Glad it’s not worse for yours-hope it’s not broken.

If not give him some ibuprofen then ice twenty minutes, warm twenty minutes, ice twenty minutes, warm twenty minutes until it feels better.
Please go to the ER. I broke my wrists (yes plural) last year. Lots of pain and swelling sounds like it could be a break. If it is broken you want to get the wrist in a temporary caste for now AND on some pain killers because the pain will be fierce in a few hours. It gets a lot worse.
