Sorry to hear about your boy’s hand. If you happen to have any of these essential oils on hand, these are suggested for bone pain:

Basil, Bergamot, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Helichrysum, Jasmine, Lavendar, Lemon, Mandarin, Marjoram, Palmerosa, Peppermint, Rosewood, Roman Chamomile, Thyme, Wintergreen, and Ylang-Ylang.

I happened to have all of these on hand, and made a little bone healing blend of them with macadamia nut oil as the carrier oil....for healing a particular bone.
