Louisianas governor signed a first-of-its-kind bill Thursday afternoon that makes it a hate crime to target police officers and first responders.
Called the Blue Lives Matter bill, the measure expands the states hate crime law to include law enforcement officers, firefighters and other emergency medical services personnel.
The overarching message is that hate crimes will not be tolerated in Louisiana, Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards told FoxNews.com in a written statement. He added that he has great respect for the work that law enforcement officers do and the daily risks they take.
I thought it was critical that we add protections for the people that protect us, state Rep. Lance Harris, a Republican, told FoxNews.com.

The gunman approached Goforth, a 10-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriffs Office, from behind unloading bullets into him even after the officer fell to the ground.
Don’t know much about this Bel Edwards Democrat governor in Louisiana, but I was surprised to see he would sign a bill protecting cops.
Must not be on the same page with his party’s leader, who invited one of the leaders of BLM—those who chant slogans wishing policemen dead—to the Oval Office.

Why can’t the media just say, murdered him in cold blood because of the color of his uniform. I think most people would understand that and be more informed to what is really going on around them and act and vote accordingly.
This is a rhetorical question, of course.
What’s signing an addendum to a “hate crimes bill” going to do to stop these killings? OK, I see...the perps will be shaking so badly in their boots they won’t be able to target the police. Got it.
I totally agree. Hate crime is BS. All crime is hate.
I am just surprised a Demon Rat would agree to do this when it comes to cops.
It could end up being a symbol that doesn’t pan out in court. Surely if the killing described doesn’t get the key thrown away, what will?
I believe these laws to be unconstitutional. Equal protection of law requires that everyone be protected against murderers by the same laws and legal procedures.
I guess he thinks he can con White people into reelecting him, I hope he fails. He’s beholden to the Black power movement like every Southern rat, I’m sure this bill was lip service.
+1
God luck hoping our leaders follow the Constitution. It doesn’t guarantee reelection.
