Tim Scott of South Carolina is the only black Republican in the United States Senate. This week, moved by police killings of Eric Garner, Walter Scott, and Philando Castile, he rose to the floor to deliver a moving speech about his personal history being stopped by law-enforcement officers for what amounted to driving while black. While I thank God that I have not endured bodily harm, he declared, I have felt the pressure applied by the scales of justice when they are slanted. I have felt the anger, the frustration, the sadness, and the humiliation that comes from feeling that you are being targeted for nothing more than being just yourself.

Blah blah blah -
Let us look at the black violent crime rate shall we? Particularly for young black males ages 13-40
Go to Carolina and have NY license plates and see what happens.
Blah blah blah
Lie number one.

Speech is in there. Beats giving “The Atlantic” a click ...
He says nothing about this happening when he was a politician. Senator Scott is a good man and I believe him
I don’t doubt the anecdotes about being stopped for driving while black. It’s obviously done for young drivers, including me at age 19. I remember it, including the injustice of it, but certainly don’t dwell on it.
Could he have been referring to times before his political career. In any event, now that he’s identified the “problem,” it’s incumbent on him to propose a solution.
It then dropped back just enough to allow her to pass the truck, then nailed her for speeding. It is a cottage industry in that part of Virginia.
Yep, In the Constitution,
The Senators and Representatives...shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony, and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same....
Article I, Section 6, Clause 1
I recall years ago being unhappy with my career and my ability to support my family. I went in to apply for a job working for the government. It was a job I was very qualified for but one that I could ultimately never get. While sitting in a room full of other applicants I noticed that all of them were minorities. I wonder if Mr. Scott ever felt that type of frustration or anger or sadness. The full weight of the government is slanted against hiring a white person for a government job, a job that I desperately needed at the time. Talk about institutional racism.
I would gladly have traded a 10 minute stop on the side of the road for a fair shake at a high paying, high benefit job.
I think it’s a good idea also. The police can find another way to pay for their pensions. Free them up to find real criminals.
The democrats only have one black senator also.
Why are you telling me what I just told you?
Why not just slow down, and/or use your windshield/headlight washers?
I totally agree with you. If blacks as a group didn’t commit so many crims the problem wouldn’t rub off on the good ones.
There are also problem cops - quite a while ago a black reporter decided to drive through Long Beach, Ca because of reports of police brutality. Needless to say he drove very carefully and ended up getting stopped and as I recall beat up.
I have seen white people, affluent white people, attacked by rogue cops. It happens.
They're probably still sore about losing the War of Southern Aggression.
Knee jerk is what it is and if legit it should be looked into
Rubio/Cruz/Lee and others must be proud to have him in their ranks....
