(CNN) Donald Trump has called Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and offered him the vice presidential slot on his ticket, CNN has learned.
Pence has accepted.
The pick sets up a stark clash in styles: a brash presumptive nominee with a tendency to freelance into controversies alongside a cautious former congressional leader who's stuck close to conservative orthodoxy since starting his career in talk radio.
Trump said Thursday evening he's postponing the official announcement, previously set for Friday morning...

The insanity of choosing Pence must stop. We need a qualified candidate entirely capable of stepping into President Trump's shoes day one if needed. Newt is also much more capable and forceful dealing with the Congress and Senate to get Mr. Trump's agenda passed than Pence is.
It appears to have been a pretty well thought-out decision. Just heard Newt Gingrich on the news talking favorably about Pence.
I don’t believe it either! How would you react if all of these “VP Picks” (Pence, Christie, et. al.) are misdirection and when Trump has his “big reveal” out walks Lt Col Allen West?
Right, that was before Trump reportedly “officially” called early this evening, offered it to Pence, and had it accepted.

Good point, yet I hadn't heard that Fiorina was ever under serious consideration for the VP slot.
Says who?
Point I was trying to make was that Trump’s VP pick is better than Cruz or Reagan’s.
Agree, excellent point.
Pence is the "safe pick" for Trump.
I certainly don't intend this to be a comparison between the great Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump (it is NOT!) but much like George H.W. Bush was a sop to the GOP-E for Reagan in 1980, Mike Pence is a sop to the GOP-E for Donald Trump.
He's making peace and IMO choosing Pence shows Trump wants to win.
Trump couldn't win with Chris Christie despite Christie being the most skilled (and ignored) debater on the stage during the debates, and he can't win with Gingrich (too "1990's" and has pissed off Conservatives over his stance on globull warming and his alignment with Nancy Piglosi on that issue.) I also think Trump has spots picked out for both Christie (Attorney General?) and Gingrich (Commerce Secretary??) in his cabinet. Both would be EXCELLENT in cabinet level positions IMO.
Interesting point, yet not sure anyone could upstage Trump.
CONCUR!!!!
I have heard those defenses explained, but if the bill was so poorly written, why did he sign it? Did he read it first? Or at least have an aide do so?
The problem was, he folded so fast, and so completely, he did real damage to other states trying to do the same.
I don’t deny this may have been a good strategic move for him at the time, but I am so tired of our side surrendering every time the left gets their panties in a bind, my tolerance for excuses would have to be measured with a microscope.
He may turn out just fine, but I see another fair-weather Republican who can talk a good conservative, just don’t ask him to produce.
Indianapolis news outlets are carrying the story, as are other media outlets. Have a nice evening.
Gov. Mike Pence's tweet bashing Trump's proposed Muslim ban resurfaces:
Governor Mike Pence ✔ @GovPence
Calls to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. are offensive and unconstitutional.
