Homestead, PA. A group of policemen, eating at a Homestead restaurant, paid a couple's bill after the couple made it obvious they didn't want to sit by the officers on Saturday.
"A table goes to sit down and the guy looks over at one of the police officers and was like, 'Nah I dont want to sit here.' So they got moved completely opposite, away from the police officers," said Eat N' Park server Jesse Meyers.
Homestead police Officer Chuck Thomas said it was obvious the man and woman didn't want to anything to do with the police officers.
"I looked over and said, 'It's OK sir. You won't have to worry about it, we won't hurt you," Thomas said. "He looked at me hard again and said hes not sitting here and walked away."
Thomas said he and another officer thought they should pay the couple's bill and asked Meyers to bring the check.
"Essentially the whole goal of it was to let him know that were not here to hurt you, were not here for that," Thomas said. "Were here for you. We work for the public. And we just want to better the relationship between the community and the police."

It’s a ‘Burgh thing. Good for the cops. It was more for them than the ones that got (probably just one more) free meal.
So how do these things make the news? Did the officer call up the station and let them know what he did? Did a waitress at the diner call up the station?
Lesson #1 when dealing with children, animals and many adults: Do NOT reward bad behavior.
Good guys....
the same cops he’ll call when someone steals his car or beats up his kid - what a jerkovich
The officers decided to go Biblical on the ass-hats - treating enemies with kindness can be akin to pouring hot coals over their heads.....That said, I am inclined to pay for an officer’s (or firefighter’s) meal when they are in the same place as me and in uniform.
I remember a time about 20 years ago when Homestead HAD NO POLICE as the borough had run out of money to pay them.
Would they rather go back to those times?
WOIO channel 19 just ran this story on their noon news! :)
A nice gesture but they likely wasted their money.
Why not send them to sensitivity training?
