The troops were traveling to provide security at a refugee camp when their vehicle was hit, the Chinese Defense Ministry statement said.
The Chinese military is deeply shocked by and strongly condemns the attack, the statement said, adding condolences to the victims and their family members.
The loss of the two Chinese peacekeepers in South Sudan come after Shen Liangliang, a U.N. peacekeeper stationed in Mali, was killed in an attack on a U.N. camp on May 31 that wounded five other Chinese troops.
The three deaths, coming so close together, illustrate the increased risks faced by Chinese peacekeeping troopsparticularly in volatile regions like Sudan and South Sudanwhere Beijing has economic interests to defend. Under Chinese President Xi Jinping, the military has shifted from contributing noncombat personnel like engineers and medics to infantry and other combat units in part as a way to get the soldiers more experience with real-life combat situations, according to Gary Li, of consulting firm APCO Worldwide.

U.N. peacekeeping is a key area of Chinese engagement. The worlds most populous country ranks eighth in the number of police and troop contributions to U.N. peacekeeping operations, but its ranking is poised to rise following a pledge last year to build a peacekeeping standby force of 8,000 troops. Beijing has said it would set aside part of a new $1 billion peace-and-development fund for peacekeeping missions.

Looks like China has found a covert way to get its troops on the ground to protect its interests.
Notice how it’s “violence” that killed them, and not “muslims”.
Exactly
Who gives “a rat’s ass?” This is not even newsworthy!
Sure it is. Years from now we might look back at this and say, “Yeah, that’s how the Chinese found a pretext to send troops into Africa.” They have a huge stake in Africa and have been buying and building there like crazy for two decades already. http://www.brookings.edu/blogs/up-front/posts/2013/04/05-china-africa-sun
It is only newsworthy if you live in Juba. Or if you want to be an informed person.

They can have Africa, good luck with all that.
You stated “Years from now we might look back at this and say...”
On second thought I think you have really, really touched on a very sore point. As a matter of fact I now can remember some very similar statements just like the one you said. For example:
Yeah, thats how the Communists found a pretext to send troops into Korea.
Yeah, thats how the Communists found a pretext to send troops into Viet Nam.
Yeah, thats how the Communists found a pretext to send troops into Africa.
And....on and on and on again.
Now, count the dead Americans that have been left over these places who have given lives for NOTHING other than political “feel good” and “self-enrichment” purposes.
To Hell with that primitive country. The rot has already started in South Africa from the south and from Libya and other Muslim nations from the north.
NO MORE AMERICANS SHOULD BE KILLED IN THE NAME OF CORRUPTION AND POLITICS!
The left has, for the better part of a century, been decrying the legacy of western colonialism in Africa, blaming it for all the continent’s ills. Apparently Chinese colonialism will be far more benign.
“NO MORE AMERICANS SHOULD BE KILLED IN THE NAME OF CORRUPTION AND POLITICS!”
How about “survival”? If China comes to dominate Africa, we might be at that point. They have a long term plan. We don’t.
