The Rev. Al Sharpton challenged the National Rifle Association to defend the gun rights of two black men killed in police encounters last week in Louisiana and Minnesota. The victims - Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, respectively - were carrying guns when they were approached by police officers and shot. Video of the incidents sparked protests around the country last week.
"Both of them were killed by police based on 'they had a gun,'" Sharpton said at his weekly rally in Harlem. "Now I missed the NRA coming out and defending the gun rights they legally had. Where is the NRA? Where is [NRA president] Wayne LaPierre now? Do you have a Second Amendment right or did you not get down, Mr. Pierre, to the 14th, 15th and 16th amendments? Maybe you mean the Second Amendment is for whites only."

black American citizens have every right to carry (”keep and bear arms”), just as white American citizens do.

I have seen how the decent Black people ( and people of all races)are intimidated and victimized by psychopathic dirt bag gang bangers.
I support and encourage gun ownership by these decent people so they have at least some means to protect themselves from the ultra violent predatory black gangsters and wannabes.
I despise the media because they have found common cause with the black criminal element and are ignoring the plight of the increasingly few but ever more beleaguered decent black folk stuck in the hell holes that the criminals have created.
I would say the Rev. Al Sharpton needs to get his head out of his @$$ and pay attention to what the NRA is actually saying and doing regarding the civil rights of black gun owners, but that would require him to be interested in truth.

BUMP. These are interesting and important issues. I appreciate any way to re-frame this / these issues other than “Black vs. White.”
If there is one thing that tragedies like the Orlando shooting and the two shooting incidents could help bring about, it’s to show that even the Democratic Party’s core constituencies are in favor of the 2nd amendment and individual gun rights. There have been a lot of stories about gay groups and individuals buying guns in the wake of the Orlando shooting, and the two shootings in Minnesota and Louisiana will hopefully encourage blacks to come out four-square for their 2nd amendment rights, too.
