Jeff Kyle, the brother of slain former Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle, posted to his Facebook that Chris wife, Taya, had directed lawyers to send a cease & desist order to an organization the Kyle family is working with, because they are raising funds for wounded veterans.
Two organizations have teamed up to raise funds for veterans, and are using the Kyle name, with permission of the Kyle family.
One organization, a Texas based extreme obstacle race team called Lone Star Spartans, has been holding annual race events in memory of Chris Kyle, and to raise money for vets. Jeff Kyle took part in last years race. The other organization, Survival Straps, is sponsoring the race. The event benefits the Guardian For Heroes Foundation, and Americas Mighty Warriors.
Before Chris was killed, he publicly promised Americas Mighty Warriors half of all the profits that came from his book, American Sniper. If you arent aware of the significance of this charity well explain.
Americas Mighty Warriors was founded by Debbie Lee, the mother of the first Navy SEAL to be killed in Iraq, Marc Lee. Marc was killed on August 2, 2006. The foundation runs Heroes Hope Home, a retreat where families of fallen servicemen & women can come for rest and relaxation, and to reflect and rejuvenate. The organization also helps wounded vets pay for experimental treatments not covered by the VA or insurance, amongst other things.
Chris and Debbie were brought together by a tragic incident, but together they vowed to make the lives of other veterans greater. This is why Chris promised the profits of his book American Sniper to the charity Americas Mighty Warriors.

After the job Obama’s “gay” Pentagon did on Chris Kyle this week nothing surprises me anymore.
Like vultures, they are encircling the carcass.
I must have missed it - What did they do?
Has she trademarked Chris’s name? If so, she has to protect it.
She should then allow their use of his name.
Well if we are going to pack up the America marbles and go home, where is home?
Better to concentrate on getting these snakes out of power.
Please don’t tell me we’re looking at another Cindy Sheehan.
They?
The woman has clones?
We all know that some charities are better than others.
Maybe she picked the couple she felt strongly were best.
The odds that this story is being honest and accurate in describing her motives are really low.
My guess is that, as usual, there is a WHOLE lot more to this story than the headline implies.
Okay, listen up on why this is legitimate and important.
The likeness and name of Chris Kyle are controlled by his widow. That is the legal situation.
If anyone, including his own brother, uses the likeness and name of Chris Kyle without her permission she MUST send a C&D.
“Why?” you ask.
Because if she didn’t, then it would set precedent. Someone could use his likeness and name on something else, like a fundraiser for some hate group, and if she complained about it, they could argue that she did not use due diligence in protecting the likeness and name.
Since she allowed others without her permission to use the likeness and name, it would appear as if the claim of ownership had been abandoned and there would be no legal issue with others doing likewise.
This has to do with protecting the likeness and name. It’s a legal issue and one she needs to exercise.
Taya Kyle is still dealing with the fallout from her husband’s death, including a costly lawsuit brought against the late ex-Navy SEAL by former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura.

So how does that explain her not giving half of the money from his book to the veteran’s charity that he promised would get it?
That article is full of hearsay and comments that are suspect at best. Sounds like someone has an ax to grind and they are adding a lot of tales about Taya Kyle to poison the well of everything she touches.
We don’t know that money wasn’t given to the charity. All we know is what the anonymous guy who wrote the article has said.
The issue was the C&D letter, and I answered to why those are important when someone has a public likeness and name to protect.
Good post! And there is also the matter that this seems like some sort of “perpetual gift” to the charity, Americas Mighty Warriors.
Such an arrangement seems extremely unwise. What if the charity changes its leadership to people the donors think are inept, or untrustworthy? What if its mission is altered to something the donors do not agree with? Are they bound by law to just keep funneling in the money?
Took away his medal count.
I don’t know enough to make any conclusions yet. However, sometimes you do have to aggressively protect your brand. Perhaps the Kyle family has different ideas on how to spend any available earnings. If the final decision is hers as the widow, so be it for now.
Tara Kyle is only 41, still attractive, has children in school and a ton of issues to sort out, mostly, issues that do not relate to her directly, but to her husband’s life and influences. Meanwhile, most everybody knows the story of her life, up close. Hopefully, she has close relatives of her own, or some solid support group.
There are so many vet organizations out there today that you can’t help but wonder which ones are legit or not......
I have a general dislike and disdain for most “charities”.
