Not that it really matters, but I am a black person.
However, I’ve seen too many minorities attempt use this factor of the unknowable in order to get a permanent pass on their behavior and a veneer of rationality to any and all means they consider necessary. Too many minorities use the factor of what cannot be known as a way to shut down any opposing speech. I was disappointed to see Newt fall or verily leap into that rhetorical trap so quickly.
“Not that it really matters, but I am a black person.”
Well, I’d say that fact matters a great deal in responding to my inquiry. Our daughter’s boyfriend is from a Nicaraguan family, and he is mixed race. Through him, we have seen and heard about the discrimination he has to bear, and it isn’t a pretty situation. So much to say, if you haven’t actually walked in somenone’s shoes, you probably can’t understand how life affects him. As I see it, we have life’s realities bumping up against human rights. It has devolved into perceived self-preservation trumping equality. I guess for me, equal economic opportunity has to preceed any resolution. BTW your comments were spot on, and I now understand where you’re coming from re Newt.
