Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tells Breitbart News that he would consider being Republican candidate Donald Trumps running mate in Novembers general election. Asked if Trump has asked him to be running mate, Gingrich said, No.
Asked if he would consider being running mate, Gingrich said, Yes. But, I think he has to make that decision.
It is the most extraordinary campaign of its time, the former speaker added. Hes come out of nowhere and defeated 16 other candidates.
If he catches fire he could be much like Reagan in 1980, Gingrich said, noting that Trump could match those record numbers if this thing continues to evolve and people learn how dishonest and unserious Hillary Clinton is.
In conversation, Gingrich habitually rattles off ballot statistics for small nationalistic parties in other parts of the world, from Austria, where the election is so close theyre going to have to re-run it because the establishment stole about 60,000 votes. The two parties that had run the country came in fourth and fifth, to Rome, where Virginia Raggi won the mayoral election heading the populist Five Star Movement. To Great Britain.
The British people heard from the establishment unanimously opposing it and the people just ignored them and rolled over it, he said before he started talking about the election of a schoolteacher in Iceland.

I watched the debates in 11/12 and Gingrich was not the ultimate carpet bomber some seem to believe he is. Romney got in plenty of shots in that Florida debate and considering we're talking Milquetoast Romney, that's nothing to hang your hat on if you're talking up Gingrich.
I'm simply hoping that Mr. Trump is intelligent enough to steer clear of Gingrich as a running mate.
Hell, he may as well choose Pelosi as Gingrich and her are two peas in a pod! (tic)
I'm hoping he can find someone who is not an establishment hack who will bring more positive energy to his campaign. Do I know what that could be? No. However, I know who it should NOT be.
I would even if it were Flynn, but not as enthusiastically. It isn’t that I disagree the country needs to project strength/toughness and take a strong stance against jihadist groups, it is just that those aren’t my sole (or top) priorities.
You’re right on all counts, but his son is a chief advisor in Trump’s campaign and has been lobbying for his father.
I have been pondering Trump’s ideal running mate for months and cannot identify an obvious choice.
Trump likely is floating trial balloons and will totally surprise all of us by next weekend.
Cruz would be the best of a bunch of bad options.
You are correct, we’re in for a hoot of a surprise.
What’s Dan Quayle doing these days?
Ditto that.
Mike Lee, Ben Sasse, Tim Scott, Jeff Sessions, Butch Otter....
The list is limitless
General Flynn is a registered Democrat. I think that’s what we are trying to get rid of not perpetuate. Certainly not in the Republican VP slot. Its a non starter.
Brownback, Pence
Gingrich, big fan of the individual mandate and Romney’s MA Healthcare nightmare:
‘I think you have got to require everybody to either have insurance or post a bond, Gingrich said in a video uncovered by BuzzFeed the second item to surface on Tuesday in which the former House Speaker showed support for universal healthcare and the individual mandate.
In a 2006 memo, Gingrich said he agreed entirely with then-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romneys healthcare plan, which some have said was the model for President Obama’s national reform law. Romney is one of Gingrich’s top rivals for the 2012 GOP nomination.
We also believe strongly that personal responsibility is vital to creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System, Gingrich wrote. Individuals who can afford to purchase health insurance and simply choose not to place an unnecessary burden on a system that is on the verge of collapse; these free-riders undermine the entire health system by placing the onus of responsibility on taxpayers.
Gingrich said Romney should be commended for passing the states universal healthcare package.’

Why did Mike Lee gush over Elizabeth Warren to such a degree? He sounded like he’s in love.
I agree 110% with this statement
“We also believe strongly that personal responsibility is vital to creating a 21st Century Intelligent Health System, Gingrich wrote. Individuals who can afford to purchase health insurance and simply choose not to place an unnecessary burden on a system that is on the verge of collapse; these free-riders undermine the entire health system by placing the onus of responsibility on taxpayers.
This is absolutely true! Why the hell should the tax payer be held responsible for those that choose not to buy health insurance?! See we all yap about personal choice and responsibility but when someone sensible starts making sense it then becomes oh he’s for universal healthcare!
What is the solution if hospitals are unable to turn people away and someone decides hey I’m not carrying insurance. Who picks up that tab? We do plain and simple unless you are stating nah that was their personal choice they should be turned away and let them die.
I have never heard of Flynn. The only thing I know is what I’ve heard on FR and that Flynn is is General & a Democrat. He doesn’t sound too appealing, personally. Trump needs someone that people have actually heard of.
OTOH, I definitely don’t want Gingrich. He’s a retread & doesn’t inspire. I honestly don’t understand the worship of Gingrich by some Freepers.
How about Gregg Abbott?
So let's see, there were sixteen other "viable" conservative candidates (not really, but just saying for argument's sake) and what we learned was there were no "pure" conservatives in the mix. I've actually come to the conclusion that there are NO pure conservatives. Ceratainly, no one can be thinking that Rubio or Cruz are in any way true conservatives?? And besides, Cruz is Canadian, so he would have been outed as such by the entire MSM about fifteen minutes after the RNC convention concluded later this month.
So puhhhhleaaase let's stop pretending that any of the sixteen candidates that Trump ALREADY DEFEATED espouse the ultimate virtue of conservatism.
I like Mike Lee his record speaks for itself. Now if we are picking through the piles of garbage of someone’s words vs their actions I can lay a laundry list of Trump words and actions that 3 years ago not a soul on this site would have pulled the lever for him. Now all of a sudden we are caught up in the moment based on words alone.
Yes I want Washington turned in its head and yes I want Trump to do it however I’m not going to become another Obambi sycophant just because my guy got in. Trump lived his life on both sides he was liberal on a great deal, so much so we’d have bashed him senseless. So if we are going to play the perverbial back and forth I’ll line up 10 to each one served.
But let’s be real here a conservative is and always has been the way to go since Reagan and I’ll continue pushing OUR CANTIDATE in that direction as difficult as it may be to hear the truth
The Dems would limit the VPs to one debate because Gingrich would mop the floor with any of them.
I do like Abbott. Most of his positions are very conservative
Nothing illegal in enjoying a Jumbo Jack.
I was disappointed n all the cantidates the present nominee included but I’m still willing to vote for him. People get me wrong when I challenge those that are feverishly defending him as if he is a messiah. He needs to sharpen up and it is up to us not to constantly lavish him with praise ad nausem but to hold his feet to the fire as well. To blindly look the other way is absolutely no different at all than the liberal cheerleading squad that saw the present abominable occupant elected twice.
The Individual Mandate is a liberal’s dream. It forces citizens to buy something against their will. MA Health, which Newt loves, is no more than extremely, exorbitantly overpriced income redistribution.
The solution to healthcare issues is less government, not more. Before the gov got involved, people could afford to pay for doctor’s visits. Now only the super rich and the government-dependent can afford healthcare. Newt’s Big Government, freedom-destroying, uber-liberal, unConstitutional solution would only make it worse—as indeed Obamacare has done.
