Attorney General Loretta Lynch told law enforcement union leaders Friday that its unlikely the Justice Department will pursue hate crime charges in Thursdays Dallas shooting of police officers, Yahoo News has learned, because the suspect in the crime is dead.
Lynch told the leaders in the 45-minute meeting that a hate crime investigation would be on the table if more suspects are discovered, according to a police union official at the meeting. So far, investigators have said that evidence suggests the suspect, Micah Johnson, a 25-year-old Army veteran, acted alone. We continue to have faith that the attorney general is going to take this as far as it goes, the police union official said.
Dallas Police Chief David Brown said Friday morning the suspect in the murders of five police officers said he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers. The suspect told police he was not affiliated with any group and that he was upset by recent police shootings of black men. Police later killed him with a robot-operated bomb.
Leaders of the Fraternal Order of Police, which represents more than 300,000 police officers, pressed Lynch during the meeting to consider investigating the crime as a hate crime. They also shared their concerns about the tone of the racially charged debate around police-involved shootings.
The federal hate crimes statute applies to offenders targeting people based upon their actual or perceived race, color, religion, or national origin.

Par for the course. What else can we expect?
Micah was a member of the Houston Chapter of the Black Panthers.
And there is no hate crime aspect?
What an effing load of crock!
Oooops I forgot, they want race riots so that Obama can
invoke martial law, and nationalize various state and local police departments to enforce the coming edict.
Get in whiteys face and make him react!
So far that seems to be the plan.
Whitey is waiting to vote. And the Obama liberal fascists want to take the vote away, they now know it will go Trump.
Although I have no sympathy for the Attorney General, filing “hate crime” charges against a dead man would not be helpful, in my opinion. Surely we’re not yet at the stage of mob rule where we’re digging up the bones of class enemies to put them on trial.
solo killers can’t engage in hate crimes? Don’t you love the double standard. Hate crimes only apply to solo white guy
I hope there is a video of this so Trump can use it in a campaign ad.
I’ll crawl to the voting precinct on my belly to vote against these bastards if I have to. Then, I want every effing one of them prosecuted.
It should have been a crispy critter napalm bomb.
For all those who gave aid to the shooter, they should be given the death penalty for the deaths of five police officers.
Charge him with a hate crime and kill him again?
Paging Captain Obvious.
Didn’t they do that with Oliver Cromwell?
Yes, but did the robot make it home safely?
In this case, I certainly hope so. It would have been a terrible loss.
Again Lynch “lynches” the rule of law!(though what are you going to charge a dead person with...dying without benefit of a public trial and conviction?)
In the instance of a dead HATER, it practically wouldn’t matter. Where it matters is in PRECEDENT.
Charges can still be filed, and then obviated by untimely death....
Don’t they have two men and a woman in custody? Wasn’t there more shooters, other than the dead one? Does that not equal, not alone?
Uh, Dylann Roof acted alone, right?
But if a white guy trips a black it’s considered a hate crime . I hate YOU Ms. Lynch , Obolo , Jesse , Sharpton , etc...
Unreal.
Well I agree and what Lynch was signaling was that the murderer’s misdeeds would not have risen to the level of hate crimes (in her judgment) should the murderer had been captured and not killed. By issuing that statement...she publically ‘lynches” the rule of law again!
