How does government-forced higher prices to the American consumer attack the core issues of why companies are fleeing the U.S.

That’s great, but please explain how putting tariffs on companies that leave the U.S., thus forcing higher prices to the American consumers, attacks the core issues of why companies are fleeing the U.S. in the first place.

You haven’t explained how government-forced higher prices to the American consumer attacks the core issues of why companies are fleeing the U.S. in the first place.

More manufacturing means more unions, and that means more elected democrats. Period. End of story.

I'm not so sure. Promising the close down all the coal mines and then flood the country with cheap foreign labor is not the way to win friends amongst the union guys. If Republicans stopped being openly hostile to them I think we might be surprised by the levels of support.

In any event this process is inevitable. The country has given textbook Milton Friedman free trade a thirty year test drive, and it's been "No Sale". We are now going to try something else.

Let that sink in for a moment. We ARE going to try something else. Because the bulk of the electorate has given up on the laissez-faire model. Partly this is due to the GOPe who always gave Wall Street and K Street whatever they wanted, whether it was good for the country as a whole or not. People sitting around in Flint and Toledo and towns in the Carolina textile belt watching their communities go to hell while Washington lectured them on "free trade" have simply had enough.

If the country is inevitably moving left on economics it behooves us to try and recruit as many of those voters as we can.

Really? And exactly what does “to regulate commerce” mean then?

Without a doubt, you have no idea what you are talking about.

End of story.

It’s not just Trump. The Democrats are also turning against free trade.

Which proves my point that only a slim minority of voters now support the concept. We ARE going to try something else. Trump Protectionism of Bernie Socialism....but we ARE going to try something else.

Another non-sequitur. The issue is how government-forced higher prices to the American consumer attacks the core issues of why companies are fleeing the U.S. in the first place, not whether the government act of tariffs is constitutional.

The fat corrupt corps which went off shore by the thousands bankroll the campaigns of the corrupt lawyer politicians. No? Ya think they're not paying off the D.C. disciples of deceit to make life as miserable as possible for their competition left behind in the U.S.? They get the politicians to increase the regulation and taxes on their dying competition at home. A win win for the corrupt in D.C. And the politicians corporate sponsors are now paying 1940s wages in these foreign countries. Professional politicians should be forced to wear suits like NASCAR drivers, so we know who their corrupt corporate sponsors are.

How does government-forced higher prices to the American consumer attack the core issues of why companies are fleeing the U.S.

The companies are leaving for dirt cheap labor as well as less regulations/taxes, et al. The big biz who went overseas are paying the corrupt politicians well and bankrolling their reelections to make life as difficult as possible for the companies remaining. They're putting to the screws to their competition who opted not to off shore their biz.

This is not complex Jim.

So George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, TR, and Calvin Coolidge were all wrong?

Funny, American business grew really well during periods when we had a tariff. I agree there are other factors, but we are just now really experiencing the hollowing out if so called “free trade.”

No it isnt. You are assuming that corporations are being FORCED into higher prices. They are leaving because YOU and those like YOU favor leaving to obtain a cheap labor pool. More like SLAVE labor.
Yet at the same time, YOU and those like YOU, fight againts the LAW that clearly states, that trade is to be made regular. Tarrifs make trade REGULAR.
Trade as such now, is more expensive because it forces labor out which results in higher social spending. Yet you will never admit that will you? Yet you will whine and cry every GD time the expenditures for social programs rise as a result.

End of story.

Nope, not that complex although you try to make it so.

Business goes where business environment is the best - ie. minimal costs and maximum profits. There is nothing wrong with that. It is how the free market economy works - voluntary cooperation and self interest. Until recently, the best business environment was the U.S.

What has changed? Huge increases in government interference including those areas I listed. And government-forced higher prices to the American consumer do not attack these core issues causing companies to flee the U.S.

You’re confusing tariffs used for government revenue (probably the best way to tax) and tariffs used for protectionism (a train wreck).

You think federal minimum wages and federal regulation are not forced? You’re living on another planet.

Uh wait a minute here. I told you this is not complex and I explained why.

Do you not believe the corrupt fat corps are bribing/bankrolling and or providing big favors to these corrupt D.C. politicians so they make life at home for their competitors as difficult as possible? Yes or no?

Maybe you ought to take a look at history a little.

Nobody is against trade. Its unREGULATED trade we are against. We are for FAIR trade.

Oh and your quip about the minimum wage? If we REGULATED trade like we are supposed to, and limited illegal immigration, the price for labor would rise naturally and we wouldnt have to talk about minimum wage.

Does the Oil Fields of North Dakota ring a bell?

No you’re deflecting the issue. The issue is you cannot explain how tariffs attack the core causes of businesses fleeing our country.

Regardless of your misguided justifications for unconstitutional federal minimum wage and regulations, business are fleeing the country because of them. Tariffs do nothing to attack those core issues.
