As conspiracy theorists would have it, the biggest project that director Stanley Kubrick helmed is the Apollo 11 moon landing of 1969.
For decades, fringe groups have held that the U.S government hired Kubrick to shoot the “fake moon landing.” Now, as NASA’s Juno probe is expected to reach Jupiter this week, Kubrick’s daughter, Vivian, took to Twitter stating “this feels like the right time to respond.”
“There are many, very real conspiracies that have happened throughout our history,” Vivian Kubrick wrote. “But, claims that the moon landings were faked and filmed by my father? I just can’t understand it!!?”(snip)
She added, “… the so called ‘truth’ these malicious cranks persist in forwarding – that my father conspired with the US Government to ‘fake the moon landings’ – is manifestly A GROTESQUE LIE.”

We know about JFK accepting cash for political appointments. We know about him plotting the coup in South Vietnam that led to Diem’s death three weeks before his own.
But we do not accept that a Carcano is incapable of making close range shots in Dallas when we’ve made shots with Carcano rifles at three times that range.
To accept the popular-in-Smolensk theory about the moon landings is to throw oneself wholly over to nut-job history.
Well, it’s close. They lost the technology to read it. There was a big project to recreate and refurbish the readers a few years ago. The pictures we saw on television were TV shots of projections - rather like bootleg movie copies.

No not really. Thanks to the internet they get to make a lot more NOISE but that doesn’t means there’s more of them, that just means there’s a platform. Isaac Asimov used to enjoy going to flatearther conventions, so you never know how many of the folks really believe and how many just find the discussions entertaining.
If it was faked it would look better. Especially if they had Kubrick directing. Of course given Kubrick’s fondness for 100 takes the landing would have taken much longer.

Ideas themselves might be, but there’s more people to spawn them. As an actual percentage of believers they are NOT more common, just easier to find.
My Dad worked for GE at the Marshall Spaceflight Center. He was a computer programmer for the parts inventory of the Saturn booster.
We lived ten miles away from the Spaceflight Center but the day they did a static tie-down test of the Saturn booster the ground shook like all of Satan's red-eyed cows were thundering out of Hell. We were warned ahead of time and everyone was impatiently waiting. I was 12 or 13 years old and will take that memory to my grave.
The worst thing about these conspiracists? Most of them, along with the 911 Truthers, can vote. It would be an interesting survey to find out which political party they favor!
