About two hundred people on Wednesday protested a fatal police shooting of a black man in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, amid calls for a federal investigation into the incident caught on a bystander's video of the shooting.
Protesters chanted "hands up, don't shoot" and "black lives matter" after Alton Sterling, 37, was shot and killed during an altercation with two Baton Rouge police officers at about 12:30 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, authorities said.
Community leaders and elected officials said there were many questions about the shooting, which came at a time of heightened scrutiny in the United States over the use of deadly force by police against minorities.
Congressman Cedric Richmond, a Democrat representing Baton Rouge, called for the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Sterling's death.
"We've seen a video that's disturbing and gruesome," said Mike McClanahan, president of the Baton Rouge chapter of the NAACP. "We know that justice must be served."
State Representative C. Denise Marcelle said Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie Jr. told her that both officers' body cameras fell off during a scuffle with Sterling.
Corporal L'Jean McKneely, a police spokesman, told The Advocate newspaper that while the cameras were "dangling" from the officers, they managed to capture audio of the encounter.

Obviously shooting a White man would have been all right, and there would have been no questions or protests.
Oh, here we go again. Here come the race baiters as usual.
Need to push Hillary off of page 1
Meanwhile, 20 black on black murders in Chicago this weekend merit no comment.
Is it possible for a man to be both held down by two men, and still be able to kill one of them or both? The answer is yes, so the case is not as cut and dried as it seems by looking at the video.
What? Did CVS just restock their shelves?
Calling Marilyn Mosby, she’ll get to the bottom of this and make those cops pay!
Too stupid to stop resisting.
This phrase says a lot: “altercation with two police officers at about 12:30 a.m”. Never a good idea to have an “altercation” with police officers.
Perhaps the cop should change his name to Hillary Clinton, that way he could get off Scott free.
The media is LEAPING on this issue to “move on” from HillryGate.
“This phrase says a lot: altercation with two police officers at about 12:30 a.m. Never a good idea to have an altercation with police officers.”
And Mom always said nothing good happens after midnight.
“hands up, don’t shoot” and “black lives matter”
or, more accurately:
“hands up, don’t loot” and “black lives matter more than any other group if killed by a white; if killed by a black then black lives don’t matter at all”.
Anyone know if the officers were caucasian? That’s what usually keeps these things going.
The guy went to jail at least 5 times, was a registered sex offender, owed $25,000 in child support back payments, was a Blood, had the gun illegally.
But yeah, total injustice.
Hey protesters, you’re needed in chicago!
Exactly. I mean, if the cops want to arrest me for something I didn’t do, the most they’re going to get from me is, “But officer, I didn’t do it.” After that, I go along peacefully. Let the lawyers sort it out. But then, I have an IQ greater than a cabbage.
Failure to do that is just an in-your-face refusal to be part of civil society. Worse than contempt of court, it’s contempt of civilization, of peaceful co-existence with your fellow man, and I couldn’t care less what happens to you.
Story time. I was going to a local Community College which was not in the nicest area. I was leaving one day and got pulled over. Very quickly two other squad cars pull up, one with a K9. I quickly realize this is not a simple rolled a stop sign stop in the officers mind.
One cop on driver side one cop on passenger side and the K9 officer a ways back. One asks where I was coming from, etc, one asked for ID. I explain it is in my wallet in my back pocket. They ask me to get it. A few minutes later one comes back, confers with the other officer, hand hands me my ID, insurance, etc. back and explains my vehicle matched the description of a car used in a armed robbery.
I never reached for anything unless asked to, answered any questions they had the best I could. Amazing the difference remaining calm and following a few simple instructions they have can make everyone’s life easier, and you less tasered/dead/etc.
Some black lives matter more than others.
Especially if there are some racial tensions that can be exploited.
