SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his father at a Florida gun range.
William Brumby was firing his weapon at the High Noon Gun Range in Sarasota on Sunday when a spent shell casing deflected off a nearby wall and landed inside the back of his shirt

So throw him in jail for a tragic accident. Who will be the ultimate victims of his incarceration?
Is your vision of justice to punish the family for the accident of the father?
It happens in the indoor ranges i visit, too.
it was a training class and the instructor commended me for taking the pain rather than endangering the class around me.
Kevlar works nicely, is lightweight, provides support, and “lifts and separates” for the full-figured gal.
Like I said, the event was sad and tragic, but rare, and we certainly would not want the gun grabbers to use it as an excuse for more regulation.
We are on the same side here.
That incident with the glasses must have been awful.
>>That incident with the glasses must have been awful.
2nd degree burn. Not a big one. But it was hard to remember that I had that gun in my hand.
I understand.
Please don’t think I was making light of this man’s horrible tragedy. But I know in my heart that the anti-gun crowd is going to jump upon the incident to curtail more of our freedoms, just like they do every time someone uses a gun incorrectly.
I end up with spent casings down my shirt when at the range as well but, I put my damn gun down before dancing to get the SOB off my skin...
It will be interesting to see how this pans out. A real tragedy for all.

I know it too. That’s why all these posts about how stupid he is and how disciplined they are bother me. Sooner or later, someone does a poll and then we get some bogus claim of “xx% of gun owners think that a person should undergo extensive stress testing to insure they have the discipline necessary to safely handle a gun under any situation before they can own a gun”. If you ran the numbers on this thread alone, you’d find that an overwhelming number of FReepers seem to think that anyone who doesn’t have nerves of steel is too dumb to have a gun.
Or what?
Beats me.
I’ll listen to Da Judge, but keep my own counsel.
If the law is unjust the state will have a dickens of a time proving guilt to my satisfaction.
Remember what Mae West said when the judge asked if she was trying to show her contempt of this court?
Which is it? On the one hand you say to move the electrical cord because it may cause an accident. Then you say if someone trips over the cord it is not an accident. So if I don’t move the cord the trip is not an accident which means if I move the cord I not have prevented an accident.
As I said before, I am a novice, which is perhaps why I am so careful about “The rules”. I do not have nerves of steel. As a matter of fact, because I am so new at this, I am a little “nervous” about not doing things right. perhaps that is why I would endure the burning brass in my bra in order to put the gun down.
Like anything else, as people become more and more skilled, they also become more familiar and “casual” about things.
I don’t think the man was stupid. My heart aches for his loss.
Sometimes I am bit flippant in my posting, and I regret that. I am sorry if I gave the wrong impression.
When I went to gun range first time to get practice with a gun and eventually take test and obtain my CPL, I had spent shell blow back into my shirt. From that day on, wore a tight collared shirt and a baseball cap.
Me too especially on a hot day but definitely a. baseball cap and glasses and ear protection
Sounds like a made to order leftist propaganda story but just a freak accident. Prayers up to the family.
Very sad indeed.
The Gun grabbers will be excited so be sure to mention to them how many Children were accidentally left in Cars and died horrible Deaths from the Heat.
Even worse for Liberals, so have many Dogs.
Does that mean we should Ban Cars?
Not all people think coherently when in pain. Just a fact of life.
Public education I see?
You said it.
My moronic (Democrat) brother-in-law shot off his big toe recently. In his office.
