SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) Authorities say a 14-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his father at a Florida gun range.
William Brumby was firing his weapon at the High Noon Gun Range in Sarasota on Sunday when a spent shell casing deflected off a nearby wall and landed inside the back of his shirt

Not sure what State your in but I know in my state (Georgia) they may not like it, however it is Law and It can be done. Remember the Jury gets the last word on Guilt No Matter what. Also many do not understand Why it was so important to have Trail by Jury specified in the Constitution so they have a hard time understanding it is Law and It is there for a very specific reason, When Law is in Error, that Error can be Stopped by the People... “The Final Say”

Something we need to remember as Citizens.

I’ve had this happen.
Rule #1: set your gun down on the table in front of you with the muzzle pointing towards the target.
Then, and only then, are you ready to get the shell out of your shirt.
The shells stings, but you are in no danger of being burned. Like the sign says: Stay Calm and...
Agreed.
“The last three times Ive been in a jury pool the presiding judges have each made it crystal clear that this jury nullification nonsense would NOT be tolerated in their courts.”
Or what? The judge would throw the jury in jail for coming to the wrong verdict.
Jurors have a responsibility to come to a verdict, but they have zero responsibility to tell anyone WHY they came to a verdict.
My range seems that MOST casings from the guy to my left come flying over onto me. What would it take to cover the tops of the barriers?? Why are they not capped to the ceiling / or over 10 feet?
Put the weapon down first homer.
From Colonel Cooper:
RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY
RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET
“Only negligence is required for a charge of involuntary manslaughter. “
Negligence
Conduct that falls below the standards of behavior established by law for the protection of others against unreasonable risk of harm. A person has acted negligently if he or she has departed from the conduct expected of a reasonably prudent person acting under similar circumstances. from: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/negligence
By your definition any time a gun goes off someone should be taken to court, However reality and Common Sense show that this is not the case. You and I know very little at this point, surely not enough to Prove Total “Negligence”. Reflect on how many accidentally shooting have taken place, wait for Facts then we can discuss again. Until then Innocent until Proven Guilty. And I will repeat the Fact that a Good Father cannot be Punished much more for this that what he will do to himself in his Mind and Soul.
God Bless
You preach to the choir here.
Dreadful. RIP.
Freak accidents happen, buy I believe that serious incidents like this can be avoided very simply, by FOLLOWING BASIC SAFETY RULES. I once had my mother, wife, two children and friends standing around me on a private range, when I loaded six bullets into my revolver. As I slid the cylinder into its spot, the primer on one of the bullets, that I had reloaded improperly, slid against the hammer and the round went off. The bullet didn’t hit anyone, despite the fact we were all standing together at the table up range, because of one simple thing: I had the muzzle pointed downrange, as you should. The worst of it was a nice powder burn in the palm of my hand where the flash came out the other side of the cylinder.
By your logic, Webster's Dictionary needs to redefine the term "Accident" to murder...............
The father and his family have to suffer from this "murderous accident" and now spend time in jail, according to you?. What would that accomplish and who will ultimately be the recipient of YOUR punishment?
This site is getting weirder by the day.........
Pure stupidity.
Prayers for the boy.
Something about this does not seem right. I have had hot brass land inside my shirt. The first thing I did was lay the weapon down so I had the use of my hand to grab the hot brass.

The man is too stupid to be free. Imagine this moron driving a car.
No he will punish himself for the rest of his life. It was a bizarre accident. It happens. Tragic.
He's done it his entire legal driving life..........Your argument is a failure........
“This story may be BS.”
Many ranges have video cameras and if this happened as reported there might be burn marks on the skin. There will also be a shell casing behind and to the left of the shooter.
Pistol ranges should have narrow booths with block walls that can fit only one person
