Gov. Jerry Brown signs bulk of sweeping gun-control package into law, vetoes five bills

Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday signed six gun-control bills into law, including a requirement that ammunition purchasers undergo background checks. The governor vetoed five other measures.

“My goal in signing these bills is to enhance public safety by tightening our existing laws in a responsible and focused manner, while protecting the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” Brown wrote in a message.

Brown approved bills that would ban the sale of semiautomatic rifles equipped with bullet buttons allowing the ammunition magazines to be easily detached and replaced.

The National Rifle Assn. Institute for Legislative Action accused the governor of exploiting the terrorist attacks for political gain.

“Gov. Jerry Brown today signed a Draconian gun control package that turns California’s law-abiding gun owners into second-class citizens,” said Amy Hunter, California spokesperson for the group. “ The governor and legislature exploited a terrorist attack to push these measures through even though the state’s already restrictive laws did nothing to stop the attack in San Bernadino.”

Bills the governor signed will:

— Require an ID and background check to purchase ammunition and create a new state database of ammunition owners

— Ban possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 bullets.

— Restrict the loaning of guns without background checks to close family members.

Brown acted on the gun bills just before he left for a European vacation expected to last a few weeks.

And that’s what all law abiding people will do. Quick trip to Arizona or Nevada.

So how many new felons did they create. I wonder if they will start checking for guns and ammo when you enter CA from AZ?

So what happens if you drive to CA with firearms and ammunition and visit relatives on their ranch/farm for shooting?

So, anything over 10 round mags are banned? Is there no grandfather clause for current owners of larger capacity stuff?

Man oh man, I’d get the hell outta there.

Is it illegal to pick up a few boxes in a neighboring state?

California native and I left 30 years ago and never looked back. The problem is the rest of the country is following right in California’s footsteps.

Likely in the planning stages now, the liberals know how easy it is to cross over state lines.

This is the number one rebuttal my good buddy has when I bring up leaving. And both of you are right. How goes CA, the country usually follows. We are losing. I hate sounding so defeatist but your right. Other states are following and soon there will be nowhere to run. We have to make a stand but I really fear that the majority of conservatives and gun owners just don’t have it in them to do what might be needed.

We’re really good at bitching and complaining and talking big but thats about it. Meanwhile, the lefty machine just keeps on marching. They are on a terrific roll.

Wording seems to ban POSSESSION, not just sales or transfers, which would be bad enough.

Waiting to see how the liberals deal with massive "Will not comply" by millions of gun owners. But then, Calif voters let this go this far, bleating by the die hard defenders not withstanding.

Wait till CA gun owners get a look at our next gov, Gavin Newsom. He would have signed all 11 bills. He will usher in confiscation.

Not one single new law they can make will slow down terrorists or nut cases but can help them kill more innocent people. California has become a backward state regressing instead of progressing unless you use the term progressive which means something else besides what it sounds like.

CA now has more sitting ducks thanks to these draconian backwoods laws. The liberal progressives must be soooo proud. Only they are stupid enough to think this is anything but large steps backward in protecting American citizens.

Yep, no question, liberalism is a severe mental impairment.
