Donald Trumps campaign has begun formally vetting possible running mates, with former House speaker Newt Gingrich emerging as the leading candidate, followed by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. But there are more than a half-dozen others being discussed as possibilities, according to several people with knowledge of the process.
Given Trumps unpredictability, campaign associates caution that the presumptive Republican nominee could still shake up his shortlist. But with little more than two weeks before the start of the Republican National Convention, Gingrich and Christie have been asked to submit documents and are being cast as favorites for the post inside the campaign. Gingrich in particular is the beneficiary of a drumbeat of support from Trump confidants such as Ben Carson...

“* As someone who is around kids I have noted the Millennial interest in Rand and I think he could swing a number of disaffected Bernie Voters to Trump, they like him he has got that Uncandidate Hipster thing going on and they dig it.
Three other things....
* Rand bowed out early with grace. and gave an unequivocal 100% Endorsement of Donald Trump
* Rand is also deemed as an outsider, he is an “insurance policy” that the ticket will not cave to the establishment
* And he was the only one to talk about cutting government and the debt, something that Trump around the edges has noted.”
Great points. And he has beautiful eyes. Although that picture doesn’t show them....
Lol - I send him suggestions now and again, but I have to laugh because (oddly enough) Canada is not an option when it comes to filling in my state. I just leave it at Alabama lol.
If Cruz can run, I figure at least I can make suggestions!
You’re so right. If WaPo says it, Trump’ll trump them.
NNNOOOOOOOOO!! Oh gosh NO!! They represent the past and present establishment!!!! Don’t do it Donald!!...just don’t do it!!!!!
God help us all!
“NO CHRISTY NOT NO HELL NO!!!!!!”
Yes, plus it’s generally not good to have both candidates from the same neck of the woods. Because of his stance on guns, Crispy is a non-starter for me anywhere in the new admin.
“It should be someone from the Midwest...potential swing states according to recent stats.Ohio....Michigan....”
Oh no, please dear Lord, not the son of a mailman!
I’d love Rand Paul, a true Constitutionalist.
If he chooses Christie he risks losing law enforcement support. Cops and teachers in NJ despise Christie
“If Cruz can run, I figure at least I can make suggestions!”
LOL, you have a great point!
If he picks Christie, then Trump lost my vote (and a lot of other votes as well). Never, never Christie.
It’s been about 6 years since I heard one of Pence’s speeches and wondered why he didn’t run for Prez. From what I could tell, he is a solid conservative and firmly believes in the Constitution, God and family. (which automatically disqualifies him from the GOP)
not a diss - both nominees living in each other’s back yards is not a good idea.
Not unusual to wage a disinformation campaign against your enemies, to divert their attention away from what you don’t want them to see.
Just sayin’.
A Trump/Giuliani ticket would take NY. The night would be over for Hillary. And the terrorists would pee their pants.
Why trust anything from a supremely dishonest and partisan “news” source that promotes Stalinist totalitarianism?
They want to sow as much discord as they possibly can with their red herrings.
“Plus I think Gingrich is too volatile. I like listening to him, as a rule, but then he goes and says something really stupid, just to surprise people.”
Exactly right. One day he’ll be the old Newt, solidly conservative. The next day, he’s off in left field.
And both Gingrich and Doughnut Boy are unreliable on immigration issues.
Trump can do better.
Dude’s a full-term Governor.
It's said that this year OH,MI and PA could be swing states.Of course Kasich is light years from perfect but what if....
Christie would do nothing for the ticket...particularly not in "flyover country" and Gingrich's pull isn't needed, except perhaps in FL.Remember, there are 51 Presidential elections happening this November. Some of them simply cannot be won by Trump...some simply cannot be won by The Former Twelfth Lady.
But then there are a half dozen or so,several of them big....
Gingrich is from GA. Trump is probably going to win the South anyway. I think NJ might be in play if its a Trump/Christie team.
