The percent of American households owning guns is at a near-40 year low in the latest CBS News poll released this month.
According to the survey, which was conducted among 1,001 Americans in the aftermath of the Orlando, Florida, nightclub shooting, 36 percent of U.S. adults either own a firearm personally, or live with someone who does. Thats the lowest rate of gun ownership in the CBS poll going back to 1978. Its down 17 points from the highest recorded rate in 1994, and nearly 10 percentage points from 2012.

This article is bogus. Latisha received $5/hour to walk around Union Square in San Fransicko and ask the question, "Do you own evil, sick firearms?"
Her employers concluded gun ownership is down based upon the answers.
... and only for a little while...
Who would respond in the affirmative to such a survey? The element of surprise works to a gun owner’s advantage.
LOL. Nice try. Everyone, and I mean everyone, I know is buying guns. This includes people who have never had guns in their home.
NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS......
Best answer ANYONE should ever give when asked, “I no longer have guns”
Gun ownership used to be a lot higher before people started transporting their collections in leaky boats?
The population has grown over 40 years....what might have been a given percentage in 1976 would not be equal in terms of sheer numbers what that same given percentage of house holds would be in 2016. Many 20 somethings are choosing to stay at home so the numbers of house holds are also falling while the 20 somethings may still be calling themselves ‘independent” in terms of tax purposes. The real metric is to measure how many people in fact own guns...per capita not per household. That will tell us the real truth about gun ownership in America!
Title should read —
Pool shows admission of gun ownership is down.
Sorry. I just posted this on in order to mock it. I see your point.
When a question is asked that might, under certain political regimes, cause deleterious repercussions, I will either refuse to answer or refuse the poll entirely (most likely option).
That is a real problem in the polling / survey industry as to how to ‘adjust’ for willful non-participants (like myself). I would not be at all surprised if this is not the cause of the misses in the last 3 big polling errors in Great Britain and the misses in the case here of Donald Trump for the GOP primaries.
Now it should give more than a slight worry for the General Election to both the pollsters AND the Democrats.
My weapons would always get lost in lakes or not given back to me when being alien abducted(lies I will tell to pollsters)...
No security minded individuals are going to tell the news media that they own guns. Funny how gun sales are so far up but ownership is down?????????????????????? Have a brain, anyone? Maybe it’s just chalk another one up to Common Core Math!
We need to look at the data for boating accidents. Should be an upswing in those numbers.
Me too. I went by a local gun store the other day and you could hardly move in the place for all the people checking out the guns, buying guns and buying ammo, which we were. All of our shops around here always have full parking lots when you drive by.
Meanwhile, firearm sales are at record highs.
Someone is buying those guns.
Me thinks someone told the survey taker to go pee up a crooked rope, and answered “no” even when they have a dozen or more firearms.
Lots of boating accidents and no replacement of lost firearms?????
