The percent of American households owning guns is at a near-40 year low in the latest CBS News poll released this month.
According to the survey, which was conducted among 1,001 Americans in the aftermath of the Orlando, Florida, nightclub shooting, 36 percent of U.S. adults either own a firearm personally, or live with someone who does. Thats the lowest rate of gun ownership in the CBS poll going back to 1978. Its down 17 points from the highest recorded rate in 1994, and nearly 10 percentage points from 2012.

One wonders how many of these former suburban types keep a gun in their new urban homes, even though local regulation bans that sort of thing.
Just FYI. I was at the gun store yesterday to buy a trigger group for my new AR lower. I asked if their sale of stripped AR lowers has been good. (This is Calif. where they may make AR style arms illegal at any moment.) He said that 10 days ago they had 200 lowers in stock, now they have 6. He said some people are buying them 10 at a time.
I’m thinkin’ that survey has some problems.
Lying to a pollster? Never, and I’m voting for John Kerry.
Oops meant to say “the enemy” too early in the morn for me! LOL!
Ah, the Great FReeper Boating Accident of 2014. All of those weapons and millions of rounds of ammunition lost over the Mariana Trench... what a tragedy.
Yeah, and Dorkbama the Muslim dick loves the U.S. too.
Thanks, Timestax!
I think Glock, S&W, Ruger, and Springfield are selling their most popular models as fast as they can make them.
NO ONE answers a “do you own a gun” poll question. No one.
Let me state clearly, on the record, that I don’t own any firearms.
‘Hello, I’m conducting a survey, could you please describe your home security? Do you normally leave your home for at least 8 hours a day? Do you or someone you live with have a firearm? Is that firearm kept in a safe? What is the combo...?’
Were it not for the prevalence of cell phones vs landline phones, thieves could simply let their fingers do the casing of properties as it seems sometimes that people will answer anything to some random stranger calling on the phone.
Once caught my mother in law pulling out her driver’s license to read the number over the phone. Thankfully, they hadn’t asked her for her social security number yet. She said it was the health insurance company - I asked her which one, and she said ‘I don’t know, they just said they were the insurance company...’
In today's America run by Obama, Holder/Lynch, Jarrett, and the Clintoons, who would tell the truth about guns and voting for Trump to a pollster or any stranger.
As New Yorker film critic Pauline Kael once said, "I cant believe Nixon won. I dont know anyone who voted for him."
It could be that people in our circle just happen to be the ones with all the guns.
LOL - the bottom of lakes all across the country are filled with weapons lost in unfortunate boating accidents
Given the new immigrants and their general attitudes towards many things Americans with a long history in this country hold as ‘the norm’ it’s not surprising. My guess is the greatest declines have been those areas with the highest immigration rates.
In Portland, there are more people with guns than people with shampoo.
Just remember that our founding fathers were lone wolves in the government’s story line at the time.
I blame it on errant boating.
Too many take their guns with them when they go boating and hit an errant turtle or something, causing the boat to tip and guns to fall out into the deep water.
It has almost reached a point of becoming pandemic. We need tighter regulations either on who can be on boats or how boats are shaped.
Maybe we should consider an entire ban on boating and boats in waters over 6 inches in depth.
How many answered the survey “none of your (blankin’) business”, and were they counted as owners or non-owners?
Exactly.
Sales are through the roof, NRA membership up, ammo sales up. Talking about your gun collection to strangers that call you on the phone for a poll is down.
