"They say it was the roughest campaign ever in the history of Republican politics, but what you do is you go to sleep for a couple of days and you wake up and you honor [the pledge]," Donald Trump said. (AP Photo) Trump unloads on former GOP opponents who refuse to back him
By GABBY MORRONGIELLO (@GABRIELLAHOPE_) 6/29/16 5:26 PM SHARE TWEET SMSMore Donald Trump railed against several of his Republican primary opponents on Wednesday night for declining to endorse him in the general election, going so far as to suggest "they should never be allowed to run for public office again."
"I have guys out there and if you really think about it, they're really sore losers," Trump told supporters during a campaign rally in Bangor, Maine.
Trump was referring to at least seven GOP presidential hopefuls who signed a loyalty pledge to support their party's presidential nominee and have since declined to do so. Such candidates include former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, businesswoman Carly Fiorina and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
"It was a rough campaign," he conceded. "They say it was the roughest campaign ever in the history of Republican politics, but what you do is you go to sleep for a couple of days and you wake up and you honor [the pledge]."

The presumptive Republican nominee continued, claiming that he considered the pledge to be "legally binding" and assuring his supporters that he would have honored it had Kasich, Cruz or any other GOP candidate clinched the nomination instead.
"There are people I don't like or particularly respect on that stage, but I would have honored it," Trump said. "I wouldn't have gone crazy, yelling it from the loudest building."
Trump himself routinely changed his position on the pledge during the primary, threatening more than once to leave the Republican party and launch an indepedent bid.
"But you know what, we have people who haven't honored the pledge and that's a terrible thing," he told the crowd. "They signed a pledge saying they will abide, they will back the candidate of the party and now they sit back and ... they broke their word."
"In my opinion, they should never be allowed to run for public office again because what they did is disgraceful," he added.
Some of the billionaire's former opponents have said that in addition to declining to endorse Trump, they will not attend next month's GOP convention.
I hope no one is paying you for your advice.
What you really mean when you say unite is bribe.
dragnet2 and I resolved this last night. Why the heck are you poking your nose in today?
What game?
Seriously, what the f—k are you talking about?
Name a couple things that the platform has changed for the better, should be easy.
When Dole was asked about the life plank in the platform he replied. No one ever reads that thing.
Its his first foray into politics. He can be forgiven a few rookie mistakes.
What do you think I was thinking?
We've had decades of corrupt loser leadership, economic decline, debt of death, trillion dollar policy disasters in every direction, 35++ million in country illegally and destruction of Middle America, etc, How many mistakes are you willing to forgive for those in D.C.? Is there a magic number?
What do you think he thought I was thinking that he thought was relevant to what he thought I was thinking so that it led to this question?
Seriously, what was your thought process on this?
This was explained to fendr way back on this thread. Then when confronted with the facts fendr started evading questions. People only do that for one reason. It became inordinately clear to me, fendr was not interested in facts or the reality at hand. Anyone can read back.
For Trump to get the GOP to, "Unite" behind him, he would have to sell his soul to the party.
Btw, great post.
Thank you! I thought it might have ended up too lengthy for anyone to actually read; you made my day.
Yes, you made exactly the same point I did. The difference is, you made it with fewer words. ;)
No, and I can assure you repeatedly evading questions is not a resolution as you suggested. Anyone can read back. You are clearly being evasive to a question which was based on your own comment.
Perhaps you have not noticed that the GOP and NeverTrumpers are fight as hard, if not HARDER against Trump than any Democrat. Trump, in admirable fashion, is not going to let these traitors get away with their actions, including breaking their pledge to support him.
Perhaps a Beta Male candidate fluent in BOHICA is more to your liking...
Apparently not.
Dragnet2 post 312: No, and I can assure you repeatedly evading questions is not a resolution as you suggested. Anyone can read back. You are clearly being evasive to a question which was based on your own comment.
I’m not opposing Trump. Damn those who dare to oppose Trump.

Thx, Pocono!
Your sarcasm is also pathetic.
Stop whining and start doing something useful with your life.
Good old Cruzie talking points.
We’ll see what your tune is after the convention. I suspect that there will be lots of twisting to try to justify voting for Hillary because so many of the never-Trump goons hate Donald Trump more than they love their own children.
Past platform position have both contributed to good and to evil.
From the Republican Platform of 1972...
“We have turned toward new paths for social progress...from wanton pollution to vigorous environmental protection” - That has been abandoned when Republicans realized the left would use “environmental protection” as an excuse to kill jobs and regulate commerce.
“Never before has our country negotiated with so many nations on so wide a range of subjectsand never with greater success. In the last four years we have concluded agreements...To limit nuclear weapons.” - Thankfully Reagan abandoned this plank and subsequently defeated the Soviet Union.
“We oppose nationalized compulsory health insurance.” - This plank is something that the Republicans held to for 40 years which delayed the mandate as long as possible. I hope Trump does not reverse this plank due to his approval of the mandate.
“Include an educational bill of rights for Spanish-speaking people, American Indians, and others who face special language problems in schools;” - the mindset behind this led to the balkanization of America. Thankfully it is no longer in the Republican platform.
“In the field of school finance, we favor a coordinated effort among all levels of government to break the pattern of excessive reliance on local property taxes to pay educational costs.” - The liberal Republicans in 1972 helped start the nationalization of education. We need conservative principals to push back against these ideas when they are proposed.
It is important that Cruz and other small government, Constitutionally based, liberty minded, conservatives protect the Republican platform from Trump or any other person who is not rooted in conservative principals. As you can see, these liberal mistakes from the past echo far into the future.
