"They say it was the roughest campaign ever in the history of Republican politics, but what you do is you go to sleep for a couple of days and you wake up and you honor [the pledge]," Donald Trump said. (AP Photo) Trump unloads on former GOP opponents who refuse to back him
By GABBY MORRONGIELLO (@GABRIELLAHOPE_) 6/29/16 5:26 PM SHARE TWEET SMSMore Donald Trump railed against several of his Republican primary opponents on Wednesday night for declining to endorse him in the general election, going so far as to suggest "they should never be allowed to run for public office again."
"I have guys out there and if you really think about it, they're really sore losers," Trump told supporters during a campaign rally in Bangor, Maine.
Trump was referring to at least seven GOP presidential hopefuls who signed a loyalty pledge to support their party's presidential nominee and have since declined to do so. Such candidates include former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, businesswoman Carly Fiorina and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
"It was a rough campaign," he conceded. "They say it was the roughest campaign ever in the history of Republican politics, but what you do is you go to sleep for a couple of days and you wake up and you honor [the pledge]."

The presumptive Republican nominee continued, claiming that he considered the pledge to be "legally binding" and assuring his supporters that he would have honored it had Kasich, Cruz or any other GOP candidate clinched the nomination instead.
"There are people I don't like or particularly respect on that stage, but I would have honored it," Trump said. "I wouldn't have gone crazy, yelling it from the loudest building."
Trump himself routinely changed his position on the pledge during the primary, threatening more than once to leave the Republican party and launch an indepedent bid.
"But you know what, we have people who haven't honored the pledge and that's a terrible thing," he told the crowd. "They signed a pledge saying they will abide, they will back the candidate of the party and now they sit back and ... they broke their word."
"In my opinion, they should never be allowed to run for public office again because what they did is disgraceful," he added.
Some of the billionaire's former opponents have said that in addition to declining to endorse Trump, they will not attend next month's GOP convention.
Mr Trump - Keep your eye on the damn ball. You are running against Hillary Clinton. What is with you? Do you have ADHD or something. Stop chasing after every little rabbit. Concentrate.
I was in high school in 1960, boarding school actually, otherwise I would have been licking envelopes for Mr. Nixon and doing whatever else it took, as I loathed JFK! Still and all,I do remember what went on back then and even earlier, in politics.
Trump never changed his pledge once he signed it. All the other times he was letting them know they’d better start playing nice.
I say anyone who ever votes for one of these back stabbers is an s.o.b.
Trump called them every name in the book. Why would he want their endorsement?
_________
The same reason they would want his if the shoe were on the other foot, in order to build a winning coalition and winning majority of the electorate for November. That’s the way it’s done, the losers step up, grin and bear it, and back the nominee. You know, the way most of us did when the nominated Dole, McCain, and Romney.
Of only we had supported ideas like this 10 years ago. Oh well. Is it too late?
Oh, you mean he likes the queer anchor baby?
“If some one doesnt keep their word with me once, maybe twice, thats it. I cant give them my time.”
That’s a big, big thing with me. Very big. And it’s very egalitarian, too. Because even a person of limited means can give their word and fulfill it. Or not. If it takes someone 2 hours to meet you at a specified time and place, then if they need to leave 2:30 early, they do. It may be a lot harder for such a person to fulfill their words than a person with great wealth. I have had almost nothing at certain times in my life, but if I said I was to be at a place at a time, I made damned sure I was. I am very insistent upon that and it’s an important test, if you will, as far as I am concerned. For one thing, it’s unequivocal. 2 o’clock is 2 o’clock. It’s nobody’s opinion or sob story.
Because if they are not timely and it is OK with you, then by default and by definition, they are performing the reciprocal test on you. And will in my experience fail to fulfill in future encounters.
It has also been my experience that people who are a PITA on the first encounter are sure to be PITAs on the middle encounters and PITAs on the last encounter you will agree to do with them.
He even "believes" that Little Marco would be waaaaaaaaaay ahead in the polls, right now, and beat Hillary, if only he were the nominee, instead of trump. I damned near choked on my ice water, reading THAT insane comment.
He will never be respected by most of us again. How many lies, how many sleezy acts will it take for Cruzers to see who he really is.
They all pledged to support the winner. They lost. They lied.
Heh heh heh...
So long ago when they colluded with the corrupt media, then on live national television used that BS pledge in an attempt to undermine Trump, are upset they were humiliated? Did the leaders and rest of the GOP abide by that like they demanded of Trump?
Well stated. I can’t even read this thread because these degenerate, amoral, hypocritical, a-hole, butthurt, NeverTrump, ForeverMeMe’s piss me off so much. Soulless pieces of selfish, lying, pond algae scum.
It’s not even about Trump for me. It’s about the con job they’re doing on a lot of good Christian people who THINK that sCruz is a gen-yew-wine, Bible-lovin’, God-fearin’ “CHREEST-yun” who is “the only true conservative.” They’re so stuck on that fallacy, they can’t see that the GOPe MeMe’s are lying to them. God has a special place reserved in hell for fake Christians, right next door to the rapists and the child abusers.
As God is my witness, I will do everything in my power to make sure Cruz is never my Senator again. I’m sure God will take care of all of them in His own time.
What can I say...it IS laughable! ;^)
And the GOP passed a bigger budget than 0bama requested.
Thanks, Bohner and Ryan.
That begs the question:
We've had decades of corrupt loser leaderhip, economic decline, debt of death, trillion dollar policy disasters in every direction, 35++ million in country illegally and destruction of Middle America, etc, How many mistakes are you willing to forgive for those in D.C.? Is there a magic number?
“”They signed a pledge saying they will abide, they will back the candidate of the party and now they sit back and ... they broke their word.”
Trump is right. The losers should start acting honorably and endorse and support Trump, who legitimately won the primary.
WRONG. It is the only winning strategy. Trump can't allow the constant stream of insults and subversion by the GOP go unanswered. It must be made clear that these people are not honest brokers, but are political opponents who seek his downfall for their corrupt purposes.
If I were Trump, I would make attack ads attacking Paul Ryan, McConnel et al., after the convention, if they do not repent.
