ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (Reuters) - Pope Francis said on Sunday that Christians and the Roman Catholic Church should seek forgiveness from homosexuals for the way they had treated them.
Speaking to reporters aboard the plane taking him back to Rome from Armenia, he also said the Church should ask forgiveness for the way it has treated women, for turning a blind eye to child labor and for "blessing so many weapons" in the past.
In the hour-long freewheeling conversation that has become a trademark of his international travels, Francis was asked if he agreed with recent comments by a German Roman Catholic cardinal that the Church should apologize to gays.
Francis looked sad when the reporter asked if an apology was made more urgent by the killing of 49 people at a gay club in Orlando, Florida this month.
He recalled Church teachings that homosexuals "should not be discriminated against. They should be respected, accompanied pastorally."
He added: "I think that the Church not only should apologize ... to a gay person whom it offended but it must also apologize to the poor as well, to the women who have been exploited, to children who have been exploited by (being forced to) work. It must apologize for having blessed so many weapons."

Worst Pope ever!
I pray for God’s forgiveness of people who fall into the gay trap often.
This buffoon of a Pope goes on an apology tour every week. Last week it was the Muzzies. Before this it was African “migrants” and Muzzie rapefugees
This Pope is lost in the ozone.
I’m gonna call him The Hippy Pope.
Oops. Meant to post that remark about grave depravity.
Sounds like homosexuals are the Antichrist. Don’t know if all homosexuals are, but it certainly seems like it.
There’s something called super gonorrhea now, which is resistant to antibiotics. Fags are spreading it.
There must be some way to deselect him and I wish they’d do it. I am always in a state of suspense wondering at the next “edict” out of Il Papa’s mouth and if a portion of the population will obey without question just because of his perceived connection to God.
My late father-in-law was a devout catholic and was solidly convinced that every word a pope said was divinely inspired and that they were infallible. I am pretty sure that, if he were alive today, even he would admit that something is just not right with this one.
this is not Catholic teaching and no Catholic believes such absurdity. this is simply what Protestants have been told about Catholicism, but it's not the truth.
the pope (a real pope, not a false pope) is only divinely guided and infallible when speaking ex cathedra. in these situations, the Holy Spirit is there to protect the Catholic Church against any possible heresy being taught ex cathedra.
Church teaching is that homosexuals must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.
Is the Pope suggesting that homosexuals are NOT being accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity?
Is the Pope attacking his own for not carrying out the current teaching? Or, is he exhorting his flock to carry out current doctrine?
His statement is confusing because it is too broad of a brush. For the most part, I believe that his flock are already carrying out current doctrine.
Shouldn’t it be the homosexual priest that abused little boys doing the apologizing to the entire Church?
Woe unto you that calls evil good and good evil.
The Catholic church really screwed up when they picked this guy and now we are stuck with him till he dies. Sheesh.
This pope is so gay.
Please add one more citation that makes the Christian condemnation of homosexuality even more clear:
Romans 1: 24 - 32
“this is not Catholic teaching and no Catholic believes such absurdity”
Please. I wasn’t led down the garden path just because I was raised a protestant. Although I agree with you about the absurdity of it, my father-in-law had been a Catholic all his life and was very devout. He was educated by the Jesuits in the 20’s and 30’s. That is what he believed. My mother-in-law, also a devout Catholic but more practical, disagreed with him and it almost caused them to cancel their wedding back in the 50’s. It was a story they loved telling their kids.
Exactly.
