Over the last few months, the tourism industry of Costa Rica has enjoyed an increase of British and European visitors thanks to the inauguration of two flights from London, but officials fear that this joy will be diminished by Brexit.
The people of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union, which means that European tourists can no longer easily travel to London to catch a flight to Costa Rica. At a press conference following the Brexit referendum, the president of Costa Ricas National Chamber of Tourism (Spanish acronym: CANATUR) mentioned that the new situation is dispiriting since our country has been working on a strategy to attract more European tourists through London.

People catch connecting flights all the time, and I'm sure London will still be host to many European travelers connecting to other destinations.
Woe is me. Woe is me.
The British decided to regain their sovereignty.
Oh the humanities!
Why do they have to travel to London to go to Costa Rica?
Aren't there any flights that leave directly from
from the many other European airports?
The Doom Speculator Squad in on the field.
The real question is how much sabotage can Cameron do before for he “lame ducks into obscurity”?
Costa Rica Tourism Might, Someday, Take a Hit from Brexit.
I think the EU will make appropriate allowances for their privileged classes to enjoy themselves.
They always do.
So why is it that I,a US citizen, can easily travel to Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver to catch a flight to (insert city here)?
And why is it that Canadian citizens can do the same in NY/Chicago/LA etc?
If he is talking about different customs regulations, I don't think he understands how it works.
London was a hub before the EU existed, and I’m sure it still will be after they leave the EU. I don’t think England is going to forbid Europeans from transiting through their ports just because the UK isn’t part of the EU.
‘xactly.
They can catch a direct flight from Paris to Caracas, then hop over to Costa Rica from there.... or, if they prefer, there’s even an AF flight direct from Paris to Havana... then it’s a short hop to San Jose.
I avoid connecting through Heathrow when I can. Horrible, crowded airport. And the taxes on frequent flier tickets are outrageous. Using AA miles the taxes are at least $100 more than say straight to Paris. That’s on AA flights. On BA flights taxes are $600, making it not even worth it use miles.
Notice they don’t bother to tell you what percentage of the travelers are Brits. In fact, there’s precious little useful info in the article at all.
Guess it might be too tough for them to have one flight originate in London and the other from somewhere on the continent. Apparently in the EU travelers are teleported to a big airport, so anything less is a deal breaker.
A real gloom and doom article.
Utter nonsense.
.
LOL!
Hit story......
It seems that they spoke to the brother of the cabana boy’s hairdresser who knows someone who carries bags at San Jose Airport in Costa Rica. EUers can catch Lufthansa and Iberia flights without having to transfer in England. And what’s the big deal with changing planes, a problem because?
I'm not crazy about any of the big airports these days... anywhere. When I lived in L.A. I used Burbank instead of LAX whenever possible, and now I try to use Palm Beach instead of Fort Lauderdale or Miami.
Americans have been vacationing in Cuba for the past 30 years or so and for those of us in the north east, Windsor Canada has been the debarkation point..........
Those selfish Britons! How dare they not consider the implications for Costa Rica when fighting for their own sovereignty.
