While not entirely unexpected, this is what we might refer to as a wake-up call. As reported by the Washington Examiner over the weekend, sources close to conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas say that hes looking at announcing his retirement after the elections this November.
Justice Clarence Thomas, a reliable conservative vote on the Supreme Court, is mulling retirement after the presidential election, according to court watchers.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
We don’t need an election.
We need a coup.
Ginsburg might not last either. So that is 3 SCOTUS picks.
The Anti-trump wing of the Demican party will bring us President Clinton II and a Supreme Court guaranteed to make life miserable in America until after I’m after out of here. It’s really that simple, folks.
Hillary Clinton should be able to appoint all nine justices without a shred of danger to out rights. That this is not so is (not necessarily) an argument for voting for the Republican candidate - it's an argument for action to reduce the powers exercised by that court, peacefully if possible.
The exercise of such power that the fate of the nation hangs on a single justice means that the coup has already taken place, and that it may be necessary someday to take action to restore what has been lost.
If Clarence Thomas IS actually contemplating retirement he should get together with President Trump and help in the selection of his replacement. He should also help find proper constitutionalists for other spots that may open up.
It’s too bad we don’t have a Chief Justice who will make lives miserable for the lesbians and that old crow who squat on the bench.
Regardless of who wins in November I predict that by the end of their term the Supreme Court will be down to three Justices and six vacancies.
Thomas writes the tightest opinions of any Justice on the Court. No fluff, flowery prose or platitudes masquerading as jurisprudence. Just facts, law, application, legal reasoning and conclusion. He will be greatly missed.
He should wait till on or after January 20, 2017 to announce his retirement, not earlier - especially if Trump wins. Don’t give Obama any chance to fill his vacant seat!!!
Retiring or told to step down now and you’ll receive your pension and get a fat bonus. That or take the pillow method out.
Trump should pick Thomas as his VP.
Thomas is needed on the Supreme Court for as long as possible.
If Trump wants to pick a V-P he should first tell the RNC to bug off. He has quite a few generals available to him that were riffed by the foreign aid student in the White Hut.
The second reform would be for Congress to set bounds on the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and the lower Federal courts, restricting its authority to review of lower Federal court rulings and Federal legislation and administrative decisions. That would eliminate the power of judicial review over the decisions of state courts and legislatures.
However, with anemic leaders like McConnell and Ryan, either reform is unlikely, even if Trump wanted to make such bold recommendations.
Got some news.
Last week’s terror attack in Orlando handed the election to Mr. Trump.
We had a coup in 2008.
One can hardly blame Justice Thomas for retiring. If America elects someone who supports the Constitution, then his replacement will be a conservative.
If America elects a commie/Muslim, the day of lawful dispute is over and the only question will be when the 4th Generation warfare begins.
At that point, his presence on SCOTUS will not matter as much.
May his retirement be all that he wishes.
I thought zo, too - until the massive propaganda operation of the last week. Now I’m not sure. Remember, the problem that this country has is not that Obama is pResident, it is that the public is so stupid and so divorced from our ideals that it COULD elect someone like him.
Yeah....”We’ll show you....” NeverTrump
I am very confident that I am right because both the economy and national security are big issues.
