Top National Rifle Association officials split Sunday with Donald Trump's position that armed club-goers are a good idea.
"I don't think you should have firearms where people are drinking," said Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's chief executive officer said on CBS' "Face the Nation." "But I will tell you this. Everybody, every American starts to have -- needs to start having a security plan. We need to be able to protect ourselves, because they're coming. And they're going for vulnerable spots, and this country needs to realize it."
NRA lobbyist Chris Cox told ABC's "This Week": "No one thinks that people should go into a nightclub drinking and carrying firearms. That defies commonsense. It also defies the law. It's not what we're talking about here."

Ban everything.
-Ban everything
Tally ban.
I’ve posted it before but it bears repeating.
The NRA is to gun owners what Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are to “black” people.
did mateen know the florida bar guards were all unarmed? if so, how did he know? just wondering, tia.
Designated carrier is a good idea, but if an establishment is going to demand a gun free zone, they should be required to have enough armed security on hand to deal with a mass shooter or shooters.
He cased the joint many times.
This is a different diagram from the one I saw (all exist highlighted in red), but I can count the 8 entrances, exits or both.
Exactly. Should be legal to have a firearm anywhere to defend yourself. Should not be legal to drink while carrying. In my state, I can, and do, carry in restaurants that serve alcohol. I just do not drink, not even one sip. But I’m ready, just in case.
I agree but dedicated armed security (CCW) at clubs is good idea in this day and age.
“I see no problem, however, with having armed security in a bar.”
In a state where the patrons of a bar are not “allowed” to be armed, it should be mandataory i.e. State Law, the the bar have a non-drinking security force that’s commesurate with the number of patrons. For The Pulse, with more than 300 patrons, there should have been a number of armed security people present, and there needed to be more than one way out! Seems to me that the Fire Marshall should have been seeing to it that there was an adquate way to vacate the premises if the emergency were a fire, let alone a gunman.
“Maybe designated shooter?”
It would certainly make for a cool t-shirt.
I had heard that all the other exits/entrances were padlocked, but maybe not, some early info usually turns out to be wrong.
If NOBODY who was Armed could get in, then they have a point.
If you have a Gun Free Zone Sign, you had better have a Metal Detector and Security to go along with it.
Maybe if they printed those Gun Free Zones in Arabic instead of English it might help.
If what I heard was correct, the first person to get shot was the bouncer at the entrance.
"Well, mister. Guns aren't the problem, drinking isn't the problem, it's people that are the problem."
We passed this law in Ohio a couple years ago and guess what? The liberal commercials along with their masters in the media swore damnation brimstone and fire. Stated out of control people would endanger all of humanity. And guess what happened? Law abiding citizens carry in bars not allowed to drink and I have yet to hear of a single CCW holder kill another in a bar. Wayne needs to get a damn grip and choose his words wisely lest he get his sorry a$$ voted out
Apparently he visited the place before, several times, casing the joint.
You are absolutely right, FRiend.
I carry in bars because I’m allowed to. And guess what? Not a single shooting that I’m aware of since the law passed here in Ohio by a CCW permit holder. This is the media pushing fear as they did in Ohio to put pressure on the law makers to not pass the bill. Don’t get suckered into the wrong narrative.
Responsible CCW permit holders carry in bars with no issue whatsoever
Sounds like a great idea.
