You’d have to ask yourself. ;d If he’s so terrible why do I support him? And while I might be a little lonely in that on this website I hardly am amongst conservatives in general. Ted Cruz, Ron DeSantis, and Club for Growth support him, and I think Trump probably will too, at the very least I don’t see him endorsing Beurff. I realize I’ve been leaving the “r” out of his name, my bad. Are we all daft? Are you? No, we just disagree, which is fine.

I presume you oppose him because of shamesty and your completely justified emotionally charged opposition to it. Maybe it’s because I’m a generally unemotional person but I don’t see things the same way. Perhaps that’s also why Donald Trump fails to excite me.

I refuse to completely vilify any otherwise conservative Republican because of wavering on that one issue (and I fail to construe wavering as being the same thing as irrevocably embracing the liberal democrat position) especially when I have no confidence in their opponents on that issue either (this applies to the POTUS race as well, there was only 1 candidate in the race who I reasonably trusted on the issue, it wasn’t Rubio nor Trump, it was Cruz, and that didn’t stop me from initially backing Walker over him).

I also refuse to lionize someone for “talking the talk” if their record doesn’t back it up. That’s just me. Words are wind. Everybody lies, especially politicians, Beurff says he’s a “true conservative™”? Well his most notable past political action runs contrary to that assertion and instead points to either idiocy or liberalism. Combine that with his crappy poll numbers and I don’t find him worthy of consideration in this race. Shrug.

Even if I round Rubio as warranting a primary challenge, which I can’t say that I do, I would only back someone that I was actually convinced was more conservative and convinced could win the GE, not a Milton Wolf type.

I’m willing to give Beruff the benefit of the doubt and allow him to prove he will walk the walk. Roofio was given the opportunity, and it was a lie. I do not overstate by any means that if he were to have ended up as President (either by his own accord or via Trump’s VP) he would legalize every criminal border-jumper in the nation in a heartbeat. That is treason.

Reagan’s Amnesty was the worst thing he ever did, bar none, but I would accuse him of merely being misguided or misled. This is completely different. We already know that such actions would not make tens of millions of illegals suddenly grateful to the GOP. No more so than the majority of Republicans supporting the Civil Rights Act of 1964 made Blacks show their continuing eternal loyalty to the party that freed them.

I can only assume Beruff will pursue policies conducive to sending illegals back to their nations of origin (via forcible means or of their own accord), but I already know where Bubbles Roofio stands on the issue. I don’t care if the rest of his stances earned him a 99% rating from the ACU. This one single issue is the difference between the America of the Founders, or the America of Orwell.

>> He is a solid, unapologetic Conservative Cubano. <<

2004: "Mel Martinez is a solid, unapologetic Conservative Cubano"

2010: "Marco Rubio is a solid, unapologetic Conservative Cubano"

2016: "Carlos Beruff is a solid, unapologetic Conservative Cubano"

Hmmm. We've seen this song and dance three times now. Some slick fresh-faced candidate shows up to tell them what they want to hear, and they immediately fall in line to endorse him, vouch for what a great guy he is, and accuse anyone who has doubts about the candidate's "solid conservative" credentials of potentially being a closet racist against hispanic candidates. The track record is the that the FReepers and "Tea Party" groups touting the "solidly conservative, "hispanic rising star" candidate have been 0-2 on their predictions, and I've been 2-0 in hesitating to jump in line to endorse their latest "rising star conservative Cuban"

Hopefully third time's the charm for them and I end up being wrong the third time around, but the odds aren't looking good.

>> Beruff btw supported CRIST for the Senate, even AFTER he started running as an indie and the defacto democrat nominee as most of them abandoned Kendrick Meek, so I’m sorry I don’t buy that he’s Mr. Conservative because he says he is. He’s Mr. Rich guy who wants to buy an office.
You won’t change it by sending random Crist-supporting millionaires who sing the tea party tune just to get elected either
And six years is a long time to eat a mistake. Given the failure to "turn out" hardly any incumbents <<

Give that information, I'm inclined to agree with Impy on this one. Rubio isn't my ideal choice, but I'll take him over some untested "Tea Party" candidate who backed that scumbag Crist AFTER he left the GOP. The difference between Rubio and Martinez is that aside from betraying us on immigration (which again, I WARNED about in 2010, saying he sounded like Martinez redux, and it fell on deep ears), Rubio has OTHERWISE been a solid conservative. Maybe Fieldmarshaldj doesn't care that Rubio has done the right thing the other 95% of the time, but I do. Given that conservatives have gotten burned TWICE now over a so-called "anti-amnesty" FL Senate candidate, you'd think they would finally STOP jumping in line to endorse whatever candidate shows up and tells them what they want to hear. Nope. Apparently this tactic will work over and over and over again.

Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself and I find myself saying "I told you so" in 2022 (when a candidate named Juan Garcia shows up, swears he is against amnesty, and they tout him as a "solid, unapologetic Conservative Cubano" who is 10X better than that "traitor" Carlos Beruff (after Carlos promptly voted for amnesty after being sworn in back in 2017)
