More than 50 State Dept. officials want strikes on Assad
Fifty-one State Department officials have signed an internal memo calling for the U.S. to take military action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a bid to force regime change in the country.
Signed by officials working on U.S. Syria policy, the "dissent channel cable" makes repeated references to "targeted military strikes" against the Damascus government, according to multiple reports published on Thursday.
Failure to stem Assads flagrant abuses will only bolster the ideological appeal of groups such as ISIL, even as they endure tactical setbacks on the battlefield, the cable reads, the New York Times said.
The moral rationale for taking steps to end the deaths and suffering in Syria, after five years of brutal war, is evident and unquestionable, it said. The status quo in Syria will continue to present increasingly dire, if not disastrous, humanitarian, diplomatic and extremism-related challenges.
President Barack Obama has refrained from taking military action due to concerns that it could ignite a conflict with Russia and lead to greater instability in the war-ravaged nation.

A real nice way to provoke Putin into a war which he will win.
Neocon warmongers. Overthrow Assad and create a new vacuum into which radical jihadi’s will flow. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Or perhaps the results we have gotten are exactly the results these people want.
We’re far too compromised to project power abroad.
ISIS was a Turk/Saudi/State Department operation. They have now become an embarrassment, so they are trying to shape them with pin-prick attacks and helping Iran.
Plan B is to throw support to the Syrian “rebels” who self-identify as Al Qaeda.
So they want redux times three. Egypt, then Libya and now Syria.... Hillary would be so proud this will help Obama's ISIL (really ISIS) and all the America-hating rebels infest themselves everywhere in the Mideast except Israel (who the State Department wants destroyed.
They all should be lined up against a stone wall and asked if they want a blindfold or a last cigarette.
The entire purpose of removing Assad is for the Saudis to be able to build a pipeline to Europe. That is why they have funded the various jihadist opposition groups that our government likes to call moderates. Our government is just doing the bidding of their Saudi masters.
Graham, Rubio, and McCain were photographed meeting with those “moderates”, which became ISIS.
Because regime change worked so well in Iraq and Libya
This from the same inept folks who have helped turn our entire foreign policy and standing in the world into an unbelievable disaster. Their failures are only exceeded by their ignorance and incompetence. A recommendation from this crowd in a compelling reason NOT to do it.
The US would be better off ceasing operations at Foggy Bottom for the next 18 months.
This will provide a good place to start the house-cleaning for President Trump.
50 Obama appointed Muslims at the State Dept. want strikes on Assad
For once, the Obama regime is correct. The Assad government opposes ISIS, has done nothing to the USA, and at least offers the remaining Christians some chance of survival. Any moderate rebels worth our support would never become self-sustaining — if the USA were to attempt to support them, they would remain perpetually at the mercy of the pacifist/isolationist American left.
Why would Assad be against a pipeline? Let the Ruskies run it.
Obama already surrendered in this war

Trying to take Assad out is why we created ISIS in the first place.
Not anxious to have the rest of the world know their names, are they?
Not to worry, Guccifer 3 will hack 'em and forward their monikers to the ICC for future reference.
Putin now control 90% of the natural gas in Europe, he doesn’t want the competition from the Saudis.
He will prop up the Assad regime as the Russians/Soviets have done for decades.
Are there any Syrians left for Assad to oppress?
I guess the state dept. wants more soldiers in Europe and the United states to hasten the coming caliphate /sarc puke.
