The Catholic Bishop of St. Petersburg, Fla, has blamed Catholic disapproval of homosexual acts for the brutal slaughter of 49 people in the Pulse nightclub on Sunday.
In a blogpost Monday, Bishop Robert Lynch said that Catholicism targets and often breeds contempt for gays, lesbians and transgender people. The seed of contempt, he said, turns into hatred, which can ultimately lead to violence. Unless this attitude changes, he states, we can expect more Orlandos.
In his post, the bishop made no attempt to explain how a 29-year-old Muslim who never stepped foot in a Catholic Church would have been motivated to carry out his deed by a supposed Catholic contempt for homosexuality.
It is religion, Lynch wrote, including our own, which targets, mostly verbally, and also often breeds contempt for gays, lesbians and transgender people. Attacks today on LGBT men and women often plant the seed of contempt, then hatred, which can ultimately lead to violence.
In his statement, Bishop Lynch also takes issue with modern interpretations and applications of the Second Amendment.
Our founding parents had no knowledge of assault rifles which are intended to be weapons of mass destruction, he said. In crafting the second amendment to the Constitution, they thought only of the most awkward of pistols and heavy shotguns.

The bishop is a moron. Probably a gay moron as are so many these days.
Western religious intolerance is responsible because... because...because it just has to be.
Shame on this bishop!
Considering that there are Christians in the Middle East who are dying because of the attacks coming from the Islamofacists.

Remember, Mohammad Atta was said to be gay as well.
Catholic Bishop blames muslim homo's actions on phantom Catholic hatred.
Projection?
Damn, and here I thought it was the Lutherans killing all those innocents. Now I’ve got to be worried about suicide bomber Nuns.
I have been attending Catholic churches my entire life.
I have never been told to kill gay people.
I have never been told to insult them.
I have never been told to be rude or disrespectful to them.
I have never been told not to welcome them if they show up at church.
I have never been told not to help them if they are in distress.
I have only been told the truth about what the Bible says on the subject.
Catholics and other Christians are NOT the problem here.
I wonder what Whoopi Goldberg will have to say (since she’s the one who called the Oklahoma City bombing a Christian terrorist act even thought Timothy McVeigh was an atheist)? She will certainly have competition from this guy in terms of how inane her observations will most likely be.
Who knows? But I firmly believe that many if not most of it's clergy and hierarchy have gone over to the other side. It's what drove me from that church. A decision I've never regretted.
Excommunicate him.
A societate omnium Christianorum separamus, et a liminibus sanctae matris Ecclesiae in coelo et in terra excludimus, et excommunicatum et anathematizatum esse decernimus.
I Peter 4:17.
now we have the spectacle of “self-hating” Bishops.....
oh except he thinks he is the pure noble one
what a steaming pantload, a MUSLIM goes on a shooting rampage and Catholics should blame themselves????
The hierarchy have closed down viable parishes to sell the property to finance their decadence.
It should come as no surprise to Catholics that the hierarchy would criticize the Catholics who raise families and keep the parishes going.
It should come as no surprise that they are on the side of homosexuals and homosexuality.
Two points: First Catholic doctrine condemns homosexuality as sinful. Two the shooter wasn’t Catholic, but Muslim. Is this Bishops nuts?
I don’t normally address a bishop this way, but am very willing to make an exception:
Sir, you are a f***ing moron...
I say this as a Catholic, mind you.
Great article.
Quote: “Seeing as most priests are gay anyway ...”
I mean, is he implying that our contempt for the Church’s tolerance of pedophilia lead to the shooting? We should have just been more enlightened and tolerant of priests groping alter boys, or worse. How silly of us and our unenlightened hatred.
