Florida Rep. Alan Grayson used the aftermath of Sundays Islamic terror attack to claim AR-15 semi-automatic rifles can fire 700 rounds per minute.
Security guard Omar Mateen killed 49 people and wounded over 50 others during an attack on a gay nightclub the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. Mr. Grayson, a Democrat, was asked about the massacre and soon turned his attention to the AR-15 rifle.
...
If [Mr. Mateen] was not able to buy a weapon that shoots off 700 rounds in a minute, a lot of those people would still be alive, the congressman said. If somebody like him had nothing worse to deal with than a Glock pistol he might have killed three or four people and not 50. Its way too easy to kill people in America today, and we have to think long and hard about what to do about that.
CNNs Erin Burnett then replied, Youre right about that.
Conrad Close, the conservative editor in chief of American Crossroads, then offered $50,000 to the charity of Mr. Graysons choice if he accomplish the feat,

ROTFLMAO!!!
It would be too hot to hold after 200 rounds.
I think Farmer Dean was right...
The Washington Posts Mensa Invitational once again invited readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.
Here are the winners:
1. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time
2. Ignoranus : A person whos both stupid and an asshole.
Did you skin’em and eat’em after you picked’em up?
Did they taste like bald Eagle or Spotted Owl?
MMMMM; Spotted Owl soup.
DAMN; I knew my scope was off, I should have been able to hit it.
Those are the fully automatic AK-47s that all Islamists own as soon as they are old enough to walk.
This double-drum holds 100 rounds. I have trouble imagining swapping it out seven times a minute while firing, even if you ignore the other issues with this claim.
The theoretical cyclic rate is that high, (775 rpm) but if you had a magazine with that many rounds and held down the trigger with the selector switch on “auto”, the generated heat might cause the barrel to soften and droop with the rounds punching thru the side of the barrel after the rifling is shot away. This weapon does not have a quick change barrel, unlike the M249 SAW, the M-60 and M-240B general purpose machine guns. Even they require a barrel change after so long on their maximum effective rates of fire.
The sustained rate of fire for the M4 carbine is rated at 15 rounds per minute. The maximum effective rate of fire is 45-65 rounds per minute for 10 minutes or so on semi-auto.
In a pinch or heavy duty firefight you may have to exceed these recommendations (as I regularly did in combat) but you risk significant damage to the rifle. They do over build them a bit to allow for these eventualities.
Good varmint gun though.
Istand corrected but not quite so much. There was at least one other gun present. An “off duty policeman” returned fire which is credited with causing the moho to retreat to the bathroom with hostages. From what Moho’ friends said about him, I suspect he thought it was going to be a Queer hunting park, not a mixed latin fest. So now we have a Moslem slaughtering Latinos he thought were homosexual revelers. The Sultan needs to call some of the spokesmen up to the Topkapi White House and have a serious talk about procedures and coordination.
How many people died from being trampled? How many people died from actual gun shots?
Just curious.
Ditto that.
Nothing new about them. The CMG-1 and CMG-3 have been around since the 1960s, at least, and the Shrike add-on accessory upper has been in the works since about 2000.
Learn something new every day.
Is it still just air cooled?
