Back at the time the speculation was an errant missile from a U.S. Navy ship conducting exercises in the area that night.

Then the speculation changed to a MANPADS launched from a fast boat.

We know it wasn’t the center fuel tank. And we know that at the time of explosion TWA800 was higher than the effective altitude of MANPADS missiles.

So then where did the missile come from? Are we back to a U.S. Navy accident and subsequent Clinton Administration cover-up?

Logically it was from a USN asset - most likely a sub. And given that, it's hard to imagine a sub making such a mistake. So if it was deliberate, then did the Clintons order the 747 shot down? Who was on the plane?

I have read plenty of very intelligent and informed Freepers who have speculated on a number of possible scenarios involving TWA Flight 800.

I don't know any more about the facts of this case than anyone else, but the scenario that makes the most sense (given the chain of events before and after the incident) was an accidental downing by a foreign vessel involved in NATO exercises off the south shore of Long Island that night.

Yes, I recall that. I further recall that Michael Rivero was roundly and soundly criticized and eventually zotted for his analysis of this event, and accused of being somehow against the Navy and the US Armed Forces, though all he did was make an analysis.

I have it on very good authority that other friendly-fire shootdowns of friendly assets have taken place, and that the crews of the initiating assets involved have been threatened, sworn to secrecy and monitored. Thus, I have no difficulty believing that such is possible.

A man can be threatened with injury or death only to receive a "bring it, and bring a lunch" response. However, if it is made clear to the same man that he cannot hope to protect his wife/children/loved ones 24x7, and that the threatening parties have the intel and capacity to carry out their threats, well, that is a much different story, is it not?

It makes me wonder just who was on board that flight. I believe that this aircraft was not targeted randomly.

If was launched from a naval vessel, the ship’s crew would all have knowledge of the event. I’m sure they could have all been sworn to secrecy. Over time you would think something would leak.

It's the only rational explanation given the failure of any terrorist organization to take credit for the missile attack.

"...we know that at the time of explosion TWA800 was higher than the effective altitude of MANPADS missiles."

Wasn't the altitude of TWA800 at the time of the explosion 13,700 feet?

If that's true, and speaking strictly in terms of altitude capability, it seems there would have been a number of MANPADS available at the time with that range capability, a few of which are here (SA16, SA18, FIM92, Grom):
Comparison chart to other MANPADS

I remember reading shortly before the plane went down, that an ABC executive in charge of the news, who had the authority to do so, was looking at the success of conservative talk radio, and the economic floundering of ABC news at the time, and made the decision to completely revamp ABC television news to reflect a conservative point-of-view rather than the liberal viewpoint of all of the major network news. I later read that this executive (whose name I do not remember) was on that plane. But nothing was ever said about this by anyone, ever, not even the best conspiracy theorists out there, so I just regarded as my own personal conspiracy theory, cleverly created by paranoid me. Of course, that was back in the day before all of the creative YouTube conspiracy theories where I learned that I’m actually not as clever and creative as I thought, a piker in fact.
