Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson leads presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton among self-identified independents, a new poll finds.

A Fox News survey released Thursday found Clinton leading overall with 39 percent support, followed by Donald Trump at 36 percent and Johnson at 12 percent.

But among independents, Trump leads, at 32 percent, followed by Johnson, at 23, and Clinton, at 22.

Headline stinks should read.

Trump first among Indies, Johnson second, Hillary 3rd.

Yes its fishy if Trump leads with indies he is behind Hillary, especially since Trump is almost tied with women and has a huge lead with men.

B A L O N E Y nobody knows who Johnson is. This is all a ruse to steal Independent votes that might otherwise go to Trump.

I think in this year an independent like Johnson can make a good showing.

But the press is delusional if they think he hurts Trump.

Think about it. He favors open borders, gay marriage, abortion, and drug use. Who do you think he draws from?

He will attract Bernie voters who can’t abide Hillary. Some Bernie folks will fall in line with Clinton, some will go to Trump, maybe, some will sit home, some will vote Green, and some will vote Johnson.

Despite the hopes of many, Johnson is a bigger problem to Clinton than Trump, by far.

For 30 years, that is ALL I have associated the Libertarian Party with-— drug use ( and, I guess, abortion).

I agree. Looks like we still have some Cruz fans here who can’t get over his losing.

I agree. Drugs. Most of them favor legalizing pot to be exact.

Are the #nevertrumpettes (or Smelling Salt Republicans, as I like to call them) really OK with legalizing marijuana, single-sex marriages etc etc?

Those two issues are rather unrelated.

I'm sure there are many Trump supporters who don't think that people should be subject to prison sentences for possessing one of God's own plants that grows out of the ground.

Indeed, there are doubtless many Trump supporters who hold differing opinions on the "same sex marriage" issue as well.

The Trump Revolution is not overly preoccupied with social conservative orthodoxy. It represents a broader coalition that includes such supporters, but which is more focused on economic, immigration, tax, and trade policy.

Vote Trump!

I and many (if not most) (if not all) of my Johnson-supporting compatriots are genuinely excited about the possibility of him making a real showing and causing all kinds of electoral havoc. We believe, I think rightly and obviously, that Trump is at best a very, very small improvement over Her Thighness and is 100 percent unfit to hold any office at all, much less president of the United States.

If you support Johnson (who says Trump is racist) and hif gun-banner running mate William Weld, you're far more misguided than any Trump supporter will ever be.

Johnson supporter=NeverTrump

Vote Trump!

That has not been my experience in dealing with them at all: the Libertarians I know cannot stand Sanders and his supporters, and vice versa.

RonPaulLives: you are forgetting Arlo Guthrie and Neil Young, who supported Ron Paul in 2012 and Bernie Sanders in 2016.

It's possible in the Adirondack, Berkshire, and Green Mountain backwoods there may be aged hippies who alternate between the Libertarians and the Greens.

PS. I notice that Ron Paul refused to endorse McCain who beat him for the Republican nomination in 2008. So it's not unprecedented that losing candidates fail to support the nominee.

That’s a fair point, x. Sidebar: you are one of the original FReepers, aren’t you? I also arrived here in 1998 under a different screen name. Then chose this one in 2001.

Ron Paul seems to be warming up to Trump.

Trump should reach out to him and give him a prime time speaking slot at the convention.
