A longtime Republican financial backer who attended a New York fundraiser held by Chris Christie for Donald Trump Thursday tells The Daily Caller that most Republican donors are on board with Trump, yet House Speaker Paul Ryan is hoping Trump loses so he can run in four years.
The source tells TheDC that the reason Ryan has not been coming out strongly for Trump is because of his desire to run in four years. Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has been fervently anti-Trump, also wants to run in four years, according to the longtime Republican backer. Romney will be 73 in 2020.
An aide for Ryan told TheDC, “Speaker Ryan said in an op-ed in the Janesville Gazette last week that he is voting for Donald Trump and of course he wants the Republican nominee to win in November.”
At the New York City fundraiser, Christie didn’t address Trump’s comments about Judge Gonzalo Curiel directly. Christie did however say that GOP leaders either back Trump, don’t comment on him at all or say they support Hillary Clinton. The New Jersey governor specifically referenced South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, an individual with knowledge of the event held at the Four Seasons told TheDC.

I have followed politics since I was five years old, and at times worked on political campaigns. I have never witnessed such a Internecine War as I am now with the GOP. The closet thing to this may have been Senator Eugene McCarthy in 1968 when he ran his anti-war campaign against LBJ.
The Political Insiders, GOPe, and the inside the beltway consultants are determined, it seems, to destroy the party rather than have Trump as the nominee, who could very well win.
All this does is confirm what most of us have seen saying for a long time now, the entire political system is corrupt and probably beyond redemption.
The respect for the Constitution and Black Letter Law is gone. When you have a Hillary Clinton running for president who has broken one law after another with no consequence then where are we as a nation? One that is lost and will remain lost. Ethics, Morality, Respect, Common Decency, Common Sense, and our Moral Foundation seems to be eroding away and we are too busy to seem to care.
In many ways this is the last stand. To let Hillary and her Ilk win will probably mean no turning back till the collapse comes and this country breaks apart into sections.
So if the Republican Party at the last minute changes the rules on Donald Trump then it's game over. We will watch and the country will become a one party Socialist State.

A Trump loss triggered by GOP malfeasance would clear the decks alright. There would be so few left in the party that the Democrats would sweep the elections at all levels. There wouldn’t even be a republic doc catcher in any swing state.

The past year Romney has been slipping a bit — too much time in the sun, I do agree he looks fit for his age and seems to have a healthy lifestyle.
In contrast to fat-sack Jeb?, who I believe, married his wife to gorge himself on guacamole daily.
There will be nothing worth winning by 2020 if Clinton is allowed to win this time. The Supreme Court will be lost to the radical left. The Bill of Rights will be functionally abolished. The border will be non-existent. The voter rolls will be lopsidedly filled with willing serfs. Ryan’s a traitor, plain and simple; willing to burn the country down just so he can preserve his personal position.
