Google has banned an extension of its Chrome browser which was being used to identify Jewish names on the internet by surrounding them with three sets of brackets, or parentheses.
It was called the "coincidence detector" - a reference to a conspiracy theory about Jewish people and global control.
It had around 2,500 users and a database of 8,800 common Jewish names which it could pick out on websites reported tech site Mic.

“Are they too Jewish? I made Judas the most Jewish.”
I think we need a mooselimb detector app - for our personal security.
Wow. Our Semitic friends sure do seem to have a lot of influence for an oppressed minority.
Whom do you mean by “our Semitic friends”?
... and they’re blaming purported Trump supporters? Try as they might, Trump’s son-in-law and grandchild are Jewish, and he’s had nothing but good to say about them. Not exactly the hallmark of an anti-Semite.
What do you actually mean?
Some crapola app made by a bunch of idiots that allows them to harass people based on their name is obnoxious and hateful. Shall we have an app to measure nose size or darkness of skin?
Your comment is baffling
The folks who think the coincidence detector is bannable for being “racist”.
And just how does Google have the power to ban what you do on your machine ??!?
*evilmofoalert* mohammed *evilmofoalert*
Works!
All it did was point out interesting coincidences. It was very interesting, for example, to read articles regarding refugee settlement in Europe, or amnesty for illegal aliens in the United States with it enabled.
“And just how does Google have the power to ban what you do on your machine ??!?”
Obviously, you didn’t read the article ...
I was being sarcastic ... why do we give them the power. Google is a monster, just like skynet.
No, it's just a plain creepy and un-American app. How would you like an app that took every name and highlighted them if they were Christian and your dumb self lived in the Middle East? I suppose that you'd be OK with forcing Jews to wear a little yellow Satr of David on their clothing at all times?
It's just nasty. If Google supported such an app I would no longer do anything with Google.
“If Google supported such an app I would no longer do anything with Google.”
Why would you anyway?
For me Google is a necessary evil because I have to do a lot of technical research and Google is still the best search engine.
That number on the tattoo was an IBM creation, for use with their punch card system.
They can when it’s an add-on to THEIR proprietary browser.
Got it.
I'm a Semitic friend, and I don't consider any such device, as described, "bannable." This could cause misunderstandings.
