My married name is very German..In the German language is means..BUTTON TAILOR..as a young bride, my GP doctor, who was very German, Dr. Winchell told me what my name meant in German..noticed he put on my file...Mrs. Button Tailor...and that is what he called me when I had appointments...So very long ago...(sigh)
My husband served 19 months in the U.S. Army in Germany...so guess we are Nazi’s...

5,000 Hessians stayed on and became Americans after the Revolutionary War, Pennsylvania already being 1/3 German. Continental Congress considered offering them 50 acres if they would desert the Redcoat army but I don’t know if that went through.
