The amount is quite small, compared to someone like Prince, who had assets of maybe 300 million or more.
But for people like me, 50 million is still a lot of money, be it liquid savings, in properties or the intrinsic value of his personal trinkets.
Even now, we hear about new letters or drawings of John Lennon being found and auctioned off once in a while. Usually, for tens of thousands of dollars. Of course in that case, I suspect Yoko is not beyond manufacturing some NEW old things that John ‘used to own and treasure’.
Ali was definitely a mixed-bag. I will say he did eventually reject the Nation of Islam, which was responsible for much of his bitterness.
Even Malcolm X left the NOI, and paid for it with his life, Ali was lucky.
When we were kids we hated that guy because of his loud month and bragging.
Him and Howard Cossell.
Couldn’t believe it when he lost to Spinks. That was the greatest thing that the big mouth lost.
Threw away his medals, got replacements. Kind of like Kerry threw his medals over the White House fence and got to be Secretary of State.
Can’t you see Obama grabbing the limelight at Ali’s Memorial, by lecturing us on racism, then literally taking a fighting stance at the end of his speech? I can. I can see those bony little fists all balled up. Then it will be Hillary’s turn to
‘grieve’ as she steps up to the mike “Lets score a TKO against Donald Trump!!”.
“”Couldnt believe it when he lost to Spinks.”
Poor Spinks.
I never understood ONE WORD that he was saying.
.
Remind me again.. .why were we in Vietnam?
At least he went to prison for his beliefs instead of running away.
OMG, I remember Richard Pryor going on about Spinks..."I ain't got no money.....I ain't got no teethes....and I definitely ain't got no driver's license."
And then he goes on about how Leon was busted for "A dollar and fifty cents worth of Cocaine.....
And people say well how did he get busted for a dollar and fifty cents worth of cocaine?. I have a theory:
If you buy a dollar and fifty cents worth of cocaine from any cocaine dealer in America, he gonna tell on yo ass. Aint no dealer in America facing life in prison for a dollar and fifty cents alone
Thankfully Mr. Obama’s time in office is coming to a close.
All of those quotes are belied by his NOI whiny victim rhetoric.
If I want to look up to a world heavyweight champion, I’ll look to George Foreman. I like him so well, I bought his grill. ;-)
After he won the Olympic gold medal for his country at 18, he came back home and was refused entry into a diner because he was black. Or so the story goes. But given Jim Crow laws in the early 60’s its very plausible.
Wouldn’t that have pissed YOU off a bit?
Boy, he was another person who punched through 50 years of history! I hope he pulls through but if not, well, he was quite a man.
The one saying from Ali that best fits Mr. Trump is Saying #3, in regards to how he should regard Hillary.
Yep.
Life isn't as simple as you think.
Obama is probably hoping he gets to make a big speech at the funeral.
I’d like to share the one instance I saw Ali in the early 80s. He was met at LAX by a limo driver. They were waiting at the luggage carousel when a person asked for an autograph. Others approached. Ali was there for at least 20 minutes until everyone got their autographs. He posed for photos with kids on his shoulders. Class act, not at all like some spoiled celebrities.
