Police may bring criminal charges over a Cincinnati Zoo incident in which a gorilla was killed to rescue a 4-year-old boy who had fallen into its enclosure, a prosecutor said on Tuesday.
The death of Harambe, a 450-pound (200-kg) gorilla, also prompted the animal rights group Stop Animal Exploitation Now to file a negligence complaint on Tuesday against the zoo with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The group is seeking the maximum penalty of $10,000.
The group said in its complaint letter that the child's ability to get past the barrier was proof the zoo was negligent and should be fined for a "clear and fatal violation of the Animal Welfare Act."
Mounting outrage over Saturday's killing of the Western lowland silverback, an endangered species, sparked criticism of both the zoo and the child's parents. Online petitions at change.org drew more than 500,000 signatures demanding "Justice for Harambe."
Cincinnati police are taking a second look at possible criminal charges in the incident after initially saying no one was charged. There was no indication of whether the investigation would focus on the zoo or the child's parents.
"Once their investigation is concluded, they will confer with our office on possible criminal charges," Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters said in a statement.

When the story first broke, there was no mention of the child’s race. All the liberals weighed in early, saying the gorilla’s life mattered more than the privileged white child’s. When they found out the child was black, some of them shut up, and some of them doubled down.
Can someone explain to me why this story is gaining so much attention?
The gorilla was trying to protect that child. NOBODY could have approached that boy with autism-causing vaccines, Common Core materials, queer indoctrination of any sort or any other kind of hurtful thing. For fifteen glorious minutes of his life, that boy was totally safe.
Distraction value.
The people that knew that gorilla the best sure didn't think so
Ape-style ?
I guess to BLM thugs, this black child did NOT matter..if the child had been killed the BLM thugs would have protested, demanded justice for the poor black child, but since the child’s life was saved they have crawled back under the rocks where they came from
Someone needs to start offering animal self-defense classes. I have a neighbor, and a month ago a goose snuck in through thier doggie door. I guess the angry animal chased him around the house for almost an hour.
Fortunately his wife was able to lock herself into their bedroom and call 911 and the police finally showed up and shot it dead.
Balderdash.
1. Where have the Democratic activists been in recent years when other children have gotten into animal exhibits at zoos?
Some of these children were either killed or seriously injured. But there was never much outrage or concern because a gorilla (our “cousin”) wasn’t shot and killed in those incidents.
(Regardless of what happened here, zoos maybe should rethink depending on adults to keep close watch on the kids in their care in the age of smartphones, and go for impenetrable exhibits.)
2. The animal rights’ extremists just want vengeance for that gorilla. They couldn’t care less about what actually happened, as long as they exert the power to “make someone pay for it.” It’s all about them.
Negligence charge might stick against the zoo - it shouldn’t be that easy for a child to breech security of a dangerous animal’s habitat. If they try to charge anyone for killing the ape, that should be laughed out of court (depends, as always, on the biases of the judge who ends up hearing the case - the Biblical command that judges be impartial has been destroyed by the politicalized rat courts).
The law never charged either the zoo or the mother of the child at the Pittsburgh Zoo a few years ago when a toddler fell into the enclosure of some wild dogs and the animals immediately mauled the boy to death. The zoo staff didn’t shoot at the animals in that case. The dogs were later transferred to another zoo. I repeat, no charges ever filed.
You think maybe the gorilla was really trying to kill the child but that due to the valiant efforts of the zoo personnel, he didn’t have enough time? How long do you think it would take a male gorilla to kill a child??
Two of my female friends are outraged over the animal’s killing. They think the shooter should be charged. Just reporting this, not agreeing with it.
Some days I get really unhappy that the 19th amendment was ever ratified.
The herd runs wild!
You know nothing about animal behavior, check out what Jack Hanna had to say at link.

Then Google Cincinnati zoo directoer presser.
And, in a bit of somewhat-related news, there is a western lowland gorilla named Koko that is 44 years old, born at the San Francisco Zoo July 4 1971, that knows more than 1,000 examples of American Sign language, which her care-giver refers to as Gorilla Sign Language (GSL), who is still enjoying life, complete with pets, and will soon turn 45 years old. As the saying goes:”You can look it up.” Maybe this is something the animal welfare goofs can sink their dull fangs into, and turn into a cause. I learned about Koko over thirty years ago in college.
