Why Is This Hardcore Conservative Not #NeverTrump? Because Hillary Is So Much Worse
Townhall.com ^ | May 30, 2016 | Kurt Schlichter

Posted on 05/30/2016 6:16:41 AM PDT by Kaslin

I've got a lot of #NeverTrump friends. Heck, I bet most of my friends are #NeverTrump. Hell, my wife is #NeverTrump. I like #NeverTrump people, even though I think they're wrong. We share the same goals. We just have really crappy choices and are making different ones.

I assume they all think I'm wrong too, and I'm not going to argue with them. For one thing, they're my friends. I don't want to argue with my friends. I want to mock stupid libs with my friends while consuming red meat and redder wine. The second reason is that I'm not going to change their minds, nor are they going to change mine (although Donald Trump himself still retains that power should he become sufficiently annoying).

So we should just sit down, have some beers, and talk about something else until November because we're not going to change and fighting each other redirects the fire away from our real enemy.

That's Hillary Clinton. She's the real enemy.

So these aren’t arguments. These are reasons. Why am I giving my general election vote to somebody who is often demonstrably unconservative, can be dreadfully immature, and who has a past that's absolutely bloodcurdling to any conservative? Well, I'll tell you.

Hillary is worse.

It's that simple.

Hillary is worse.

Now, some people disagree that Hillary is worse than Trump. They see them as occupying precisely the same bandwidth in the spectrum of failure. Not so. Hillary is demonstrably horrible, and in a purely utilitarian calculation The Donald offers a marginally greater chance of being less horrible. Hence, Trump.

Let's look at their respective policies. Hillary’s policies are all liberal all of the time, and always will be all liberal all of the time. Trump has embraced some terrible policies in the past, but also a number of conservative policies. With Hillary, I have exactly 0% chance of her implementing conservative policies. With Trump, I have a >0% chance of having him implement conservative policies. Advantage Trump.

Hillary absolutely will nominate Supreme Court justices who will gut the First and Second Amendments and treat the Commerce Clause like one of Bill’s interns. Trump has provided a list of potential nominees who won’t, and he might choose Justice Scalia’s replacement from among them. Advantage Trump.

Some say that Donald Trump is an “authoritarian.” But Trump cares nothing about what I do personally. Hillary, on the other hand, cares deeply about what I do personally because she's a totalitarian. She wants to control what I think, feel, and do, and even what bathroom I want to do it in. Trump may have shrugged his shoulders at the idea of transgender potties, but that's not the kind of idea that he would ever come up with. He doesn’t care. However, it's exactly the kind of obnoxious, intrusive idea libfascists like Hillary come up with. Trump just wants to sit around being rich and famous. Hillary wants to improve people like me and forcibly morph us into her neutered vision of the new socialist beta male she's been dreaming of since she was an embittered last call five at Wellesley.

Trump may be kind of thuggish, but he'll leave me alone. Hillary's going to come looking for me, and she’s foolish and clueless enough to push and push until we normals get tired of it and start to push back. I, for one, prefer my country not to be sucked into a second civil war because some former president’s angry wife is playing out a freakish psychodrama revenge fantasy against all the guys who have rejected her, from her father to Bill to those of us male-identifying men who laugh at her cankles. Advantage Trump.

And once in power, who would be checked and balanced? The whole Democratic Party plus all their media pals would be out to lasso Trump Gone Wild. So would the Deep State – the bureaucracy would be eager to passively egress The Donald should he overstep. And they would likely be joined by establishment Republicans who think that fighting liberals “is not who we are.” Should he give them cause, they would impeach Trump in a heartbeat. So even assuming Trump wanted to be a dictator – frankly, a pretty silly notion – he couldn’t be one.

But Hillary has an entire party and a cultural apparatus behind her that actually believes in the progressive fascism that she adores. Stop her? These Alinskyite apparatchiks will be cheering her on. And do you think the GOP establishment is going to suddenly grow a set of those things Hillary hates and fight? Yeah, right. She could sacrifice a toddler to Baal in Lafayette Park and not be impeached. Hillary would have the eager support of Democratic fellow travelers, liberal judges, the left wing bureaucracy, a corrupt media and Hollywood, all of them encouraging this dumb, vindictive shrew to put a “her” in Führer.

So if you're concerned about real fascism instead of fantasy fascism, advantage Trump.

Finally, let’s talk about principles. I understand principles. I put myself in places that could have gotten me killed over principles. And there are a lot of my conservative friends who feel that they can't vote for a guy like Donald Trump on principle. Well, I can't argue with that. He certainly doesn't deserve their vote. But he's getting mine, because my overriding principle is not to let libfascist monsters like Hillary win.

Now, if you want to tell me that I have no principles and don’t measure up, and blah blah blah, you should probably keep that to yourself. This is a fight you won’t win, so don’t start it. And don't look at me to start up on my #NeverTrump friends. That’s a fight that I won’t win, and bickering is only going to keep us from getting back together in 2020 to clean house and elect a real conservative president.

You do what you got to do. I'm going to do what I got to do.

So now that that’s settled, let's go pound some beers.

The lesser of two evils...

Either take what is offered, or receive nothing of value.

And I cannot think of anything of lesser value to ANYBODY than to have to suffer through the travesty of the Current Occupant’s third term, as enacted by Herself.

Hobson’s choice, which in the end is no choice at all, but we bears will muddle through - bears always do. We will take the choice offered, because, well, just because.

Trump has a way of growing on you. I voted for Cruz in the primary (never again) and kept listening and thinking. I always like what Trump said but didn’t like the way he said it. I couldn’t see that kind of talk in the WH. But then I began to realize he couldn’t have accomplished all he has without good leadership skills, #1. And #2, Washington must be cleaned up and the best hope for the world is going down the tubes. Washington must change and it will take a non-traditional leader like Trump to get the job done. A radical change is needed and Trump is the only hope we have.

>>Voting against Donald Trump definitely means crooked and criminal Hillary Rotten Clinton will move back into the People’s House. No thanks<<

The Worm eaters can’t do arithmetic. They gave us obozo and want to compound it with giving us hitlery in the name of a conservative purity test even Reagan could not pass.

This fellow wants a “real” conservative after Trump.

He does not support Trump and will not support Trump once Hillary is gone.

He is the lesser of evils BS. Trump is exactly what the county needs, a Nationalist anti globalist. The timing couldn't be better.

I agree there are tons of reasons why Trump is a great candidate. I'm working on a response for that "Well Hiilary is bad but I just can't vote for Trump he is terrible" you know people who aren't extremely political but usually go lib because it more fashionable easier, they don't really care anyhow.

Not worried though the Trump campaign has brought in a master marketer who is a maven at figuring out all the slices of the nations demographics - hehehe.

You know that one of the things that freaks the politicians out about Trump - he knows human psychology much better than they do.

For the first time in my life I'm going to get for somebody I really want to and have since August.

I'm not holding my nose I'm racing to the polls with glee.

A bit unrealated central_va just for the record, I predict today is the day Hillary's campaign died it will stumble on but it is now a zombie. Keep it away from brains.

Perhaps this time its really going to happen.

stop laughing

In what way is Trump thuggish? These types throw out words that have all the power of the usual Washington clichés that elites adore. It's ‘at the end of the day,’ ‘set the table,’ ‘baked in the cake’ and ‘thuggish’ and ‘vulgarian.’ It's meaningless. In no way is Trump thuggish unless you mean speaking truth to power is thuggish.

We are “hiring” Trump to do one thing. To destroy the establishment so that real conservatives can be elected in the future. We all know Trump is not an ultra conservative. He does do what he says. These never Trump people totally have forgotten how there was a war on conservatives by the establishment just like 2 years ago. Trump is our Nuke... and we are capping it off. There will be no james bond cutting the blue wire at 2 secs left. I want blood curdling screams of rinos, and the sound of crapping pants of those that hang out with Rinos. We have released the hounds, and there is no call to heal... its over when they finish the marrow of their political bones.

All I care about and one of the key reasons I’ve supported Trump is he has what it takes to be effective. I like everyone was skeptical but he has proved himself over and over again against an withering onslaught of attacks from the left the right and the middle. He did not tone down his America first positions but instead has expanded on them. While he may not be the most conservative President he will be the most American President and since Reagan. I can also argue that Trump is far more conservative on the military, on immigration, on trade, on the environment, on guns many other issues than Reagan.

Too many have built up a straw Trump in their heads unable to process the complex character that he is. Yes he’s did the unthinkable of supporting Democrats but as a businessman operating in Manhattan and in other urban areas mostly controlled by Democrats he had interests to protect because of a game he did not create. Also we all must be honest in admitting that the GOP has not been the most consistent or reliable vehicle of clear principles on any count whether economically or socially.

What happens is that individuals like Pres GW Bush talk one game then they authorize bailouts for their Wall Street contributors. They say they are for Traditional marriage while quietly promoting lgbt activists into the top positions in their admin and party. Like just recently when the GOP under Ryan actually worked to expand the power of the EPA. The idea that Trump is some how a traitor because he dared leave the GOP for a time or didn’t march lock step is crazy.

The key area where Trump can never be denied with any credibility is his business success in literally hundreds of endeavors. He did not just inherit a fortune as some have suggested dismissively but he took a multimillion dollar company primarily focused on low income housing and grew that business and expanded it into a multibillion business and brand with properties worldwide. Trump is the only candidate running for President who actually employs thousands of people and that is something that he should not be denied.

Hillary is not just worse than Trump but Trump is if one is fair and not a small sanctimonious minded not just better but eclipses both of our most recent failed Presidential candidates McCain and Romney. Sure there are reasons to not like Trump but trying to behave as if he has little to offer or is not qualified to be President is just ignorance.

“We just have really crappy choices and are making different ones”. ..............

So WHAT has changed with the candidates in the upcoming election? Historically, we have been given rotten candidates numerous times. Seems the philosophy is to pick too losers and give us the “opportunity” to pick the least of the worse.

Yes, there are a number of faults with Trump but I believe he is what this nation needs AT THIS TIME if we are ever going to save us from the ash heap. He may just prove to have been a great choice when history has been recorded. He sure as hell would do better than Hitlary.

she's been dreaming of since she was an embittered last call five at Wellesley.

Can someone please clarify for me what a "last call five" is? A young woman who is actually a "five" on the Bo Derek scale, who appears to be a ten at closing time? Or a woman who is actually below a five on the BD scale, but attains that status at closing time? Or a reference to the "fifth" (of a gallon of whiskey) it would take to make her palatable. Or something else entirely?

Be nice, my grandmother and her twin sister were Wellesley grads.

What does Trump not a Conservative even mean? Trump adopted all the policies Conservatives support

Conservatives have principles. The two most important being

Rule of law
Respect for private property

Trump is terrible on both. He supports Kelo, which shows he has scant respect for property rights. He is completely tone deaf with respect to principle of rule of law. He is completely unprincipled. His "arguments" never even rise to the level of casuistry. The principle of rule of law does not guarantee that I always get my way.

But I agree with Mr. Schlicter, Hillary is unimaginably worse.

Trump was my second choice, but I have no qualms about voting for him.

He will secure our national sovereignty, and he will work toward energy independence. Which, again, is a function of national sovereignty. There were only two people in the race I trusted to do that, and he is the one left standing. I’ll vote for him happily.

Against Hillary, it should be an easy call. Trump isn’t a criminal. You can investigate Trump’s finances and not wind up dead. He hasn’t sold us out to the Chinese, or the Saudis, or Muslim Brotherhood. He didn’t sell our uranium to the Russians. He made his money building and selling buildings, not selling his office or extortion under color of law.

Hillary runs for office wanting to fix the damage done by 16 years of Obama and Clinton. How do you do that with a straight face?
