It wasn’t until we took dad on an Honor Flight (age 92) that he was able to talk about his service.
My sister and I just opened his trunk. Among the many other things was a picture album of his base and assorted other picture. It explained a lot. He was an officer at the supply depot for the South Pacific No combat but much anxiety. His base modified the planes that took out many Japanese ships. They prepared the plane that dropped the bomb and they would have been staging area for invasion of Tokyo.
He made sure the food, water, ammo got to the front line
As judicial officer for the base it gave him the most nightmare. Young men pushed to the brink to do unspeakable things How to show compassion under such circumstances The tears flowed

Wow, amazing story, thanks for sharing. It is so great that you and your dad got to go on an honor flight - I bet it was a wonderful experience that you’ll be able to keep with you always. I’ve heard and read many times that those that were in a war, don’t talk about it; or, at least don’t do so for a very long time.

Was sitting down for an early lunch and flipping channels. USA has a Chrisley Knows Best marathon on today. If you’ve not watched it before, it’s the story/antics of a wealthy family in GA with a fairly strict, opinionated dad. I find it rather humorous. So, if you are taking a little down time today, may want to try it out before the Memorial Day Concert comes on PBS (3 Pacific time).
My sister drove fourteen Hous to meet his bus as it pulled up to the memorial. She brought her daughter and two of the grandchild to greet him and thank him. A day none of us will forget
Will check it out. Watched Braveheart last night. Got away from traditional war movies for a little. Am planning to watch the new Roots tonight. Jonathan Reys Myers is in it. I really found his southern role in Ride With the Devil outstanding much much better than The Tudors.
