Based on the fact that the Democratic nominating process is totally rigged and Crooked Hillary Clinton and Deborah Wasserman Schultz will not allow Bernie Sanders to win, and now that I am the presumptive Republican nominee, it seems inappropriate that I would debate the second place finisher. Likewise, the networks want to make a killing on these events and are not proving to be too generous to charitable causes, in this case, womens health issues. Therefore, as much as I want to debate Bernie Sanders - and it would be an easy payday - I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be.
1/2016 and you have a history?
almost no D voters want Hillary.
they are sick and tired of her.
and they know she’s a big-time loser.
the many down-ticket D candidates in congress, states, and local communities are ESPECIALLY worried and against the D party bosses (giving or, rather, Selling...) the nomination to Hillary.
they want a chance to win...(as most candidates, other than say McCain and Romney, would...)
Good analogy. Made worse when ‘Jimmy’is said to have cooties!
Just let Donald play this out...it’s not over yet. To many $$$$ at stake and he knows it.
this reminds me of Lucy pulling Charlie Browns football
But then again, Im not as politically savvy as say... George Will or Krauthammer

Don’t sell yourself short against these pompous pontificators. I would rather read your comments than theirs. :)
He did the right thing by bailing, but the wrong thing by allowing himself to be drug it this in the first place. Now he looks like he’s back peddling and avoiding something he said he wanted to do.
The downside of the debate for him was far greater than any potential gain. Champions don’t compete against would be upstarts. Trump has to pick his battles.
This is a mistake and Trump isnt perfect

Agree with you. I support Trump but he made a misstep this time and had to walk it back. His instincts are good but he really needs to avoid taking the bait and being set up like he was this time. The media are a bunch of jackals and will try other tricks like this that could be far more costly for him in the future. Can’t be stepping in quicksand now.
Didn’t he know all that when he made the offer to debate Sanders in the first place?
BTTT
Nah, no one is going to remember this as a failing of Hillary. It will just give fuel to the ‘Trump is a flip-flopper’ narrative.
I’m as big a Trump supporter as you will find and IMO he really shot himself in the foot here. Most of the ‘flip-flopper’ charges are actually the media distorting his words. He clearly said he was serious yesterday in the presser before the Energy speech, so that explanation won’t float.
Dumb mistake. Personally I’m even more disappointed than after the dumb Heidi retweet. Be objective here folks, this didn’t play well for Trump.
In the first place, when you're way on top of the heap you never give a political adversary the FREE GIFT of an audience of millions and millions of TV debate watchers.
This is Politics 101.
In the second place, Trump's decision to not participate keeps one of the liberal networks (all of them are liberal) from making millions of dollars for one night...on HIS dime. The TV media honchos must be pulling their hairs out.
Finally, I don't agree that Trump "won all his debates"...and we all know it. He just didn't lose them. He has cut no big swathe as a debater. He has a lot, but not enough grounding in depth to shine in a Capitalism vs. Socialism/Marxism debate with the clever Bernie. Sanders cloaks his true ideology under a blanket of Populism.
Remember, Trump was a businessman up to only months ago, not a finely-educated, long-time FReeper!
I never underestimate Sanders. Bernie is glib, smart, canny and expertly detailed in the ideology and issues he promotes, plus he's just as dominating and loud as Donald if not louder. He has a steel-trap memory for facts and figure which impress the uninformed.
It would certainly be fun to watch such a debate, and I would love it (if Trump was behind)....but I think wiser political heads in the Trump campaign advisory staff put the kibosh on any such encounter.
That's what Manafort and others are around for...to advise at what's best and what is not.....and I see their fine hand in this decision.
Hillary was smart, also, in not debating Bernie because she's got the delegates and there's no way she can gain anything, only lose if things don't go right.
Likewise with Trump.....he's in the catbird seat now...and he doesn't have to get in a public cat fight with the pugnacious Sanders just to satisfy his lifelong personal desire to face any and all challenges and WIN.
Nothing wrong with that, but at this point strategies and battlefields must be chosen carefully.

Yours is the correct answer!
Horse pucky. It’s a single blip on the radar screen gone forever. You’re making it sound like Trump’s world is coming to an end. At least- a dozen other BREAKING NEWS events, will populate the news banners between right now and Tuesday morning. Think about it...
Trump has an indescribable and unknown- to the universe, force field, surrounding him.
The Republicans beat themselves up. Now it’s time for the Democrats.
It’s far more advantageous for Trump to wait for Hillary to get the nomination.
That way some of the Sanders supporters will vote for Trump.
If Bernie keeps winning, then expect a fight at the DNC convention. Let’s watch the Democrats self destruct.
Let Hillary and Bernie fight it out FIRST...
Then the winner can debate Trump
Bernie people will see this as Trump being afraid of Bernie. That will help Bernie against Hillary. The whole episode also frames the race as Bernie against Trump, and Hillary out of the loop. That also helps Bernie against Hillary.
Trump is helping Bernie in the minds of the Rats.
Great post—#52.
Kudos.

A well stated analysis on your part.
